sorry to harp on this...
but please buy american as much as possible this holiday season

together let's do our part to stay out of wal mart and target
together let's express our disapproval of reckless free trade that decimates the american working force and underwrites slave labor
together let's cut down on disposable, plastic products for our children

support american labor :bounce:

4. If you can't find it in Made in America
May I suggest the Hunger Site? The Hunger Site's sponsors donate free food for hungry people in the world when you click on their site. They also have a very nice on-line store, where I have bought inexpensive jewelry items for friends in the past. Most are Fair Trade companies, and you can get beautiful things, like a lovely tea set from Vietnam or Roman Glass jewelry from Israel.

5. how about buying nothing?
I'm serious. It's a great feeling and one I wish we had adopted years ago. (Been doing it for only a few years).

Someone somewhere posted this, and it's beautiful for a holiday season:

Use it up
Wear it out
Make do
Or do without

13. Buy nothing and the MSM will blame Bush
Seriously, get those holiday freaky shopper numbers down enough to make the news and all we'll hear for weeks is the "looming recession", economic jitters and Bush's war effect on the economy.. its perfect.

11. there are washing machines
vacuums, and some kitchen appliances.

you must be referring to more popular consumer electronics like cell phones, plasma HDTVs, iPods and the like.

just ask yourself if you need these things and if you do, then shop wisely, see if there's ANYTHING that's made in the U.S. and if there is, buy it, if you can.

i'm just saying, when you can, buy american. if you can't, consider not buying.

17. no, i don't really follow you there
we need HDTVs, iPods and cell phones in order for DU to exist? not really, just computers and yes, that's a necessary evil in order to facilitate things like DU.

but the rest of those "consumer electronics" -- it's all filigree. how much of it is "needed"?

hell, i think the majority of DUers could and should use some time away from here........

14. make your own gift
compose a song or sonnet, knit a blanket, buy some materieals at a hobby shop and craft a gift. you don't need to buy something when the best gifts are from the heart.

Or should say making. I am hoping I get them done in time.
My family is also giving to the Heifer Project.
