Cost of Thanksgiving dinner up 11%
But they put a good spin on it:

"...less than a value meal at almost any fast food restaurant."

1. Yeah, but that's just *food*. We don't count that for inflation!
It's not like everybody *needs* it...

7. Because, of course, none of us eat
Or drive to work or heat our houses.

2. I'm very glad I get to freeload at my parents' house Thursday....
... I'm a single guy and don't grocery shop frequently, so I tend not to notice price increases. But on my recent shopping trip, in which I bought more food than usual....OUCH! The six-pack of English muffins I typically buy - up 70 cents from last time (which had only been a few weeks before). Orange juice - +40 cents; soy milk - +35 cents; grape juice - +50 cents.
The only thing that wasn't up was the imported gourmet coffee I like (which was high already, I suppose).

5. This has to be a lie, Bush tells us all the time that the economy is strong
and there's no inflation.

6. Just avoid the Norman Rockwell-type Thanksgiving and you save $$$!!!

A few years ago, I talked my wife into having a Thanksgiving based on the first celebration. She agreed so we had:

clam chowder
natural turkey
squash and corn
cranberries
pumpkin pudding (yum! :9)

Very austere and very tasty!

So you don't need to cover your table with everything offered by the local mega-mart!

9. or everyone can contribute to the dinner.
someone make the turkey, someone else make stuffing, and so on. Try to make it a joint effort.

11. I agree!

I'm a guy and I love to cook. I do a lot of the food preparation (my wife appreciates that! ;)), so the chores of Thanksgiving Day don't fall on any one person or group of persons.

One thing that doesn't go on in our household is the TeeVee: No "big game" in the KansDem household on Thanksgiving Day!!!

edited for typo

13. Well, yes, there's that advantage...
And I used to like having a lot of people around, but recently (last 10-15 years or so) I've preferred a smaller gathering and a quiet T-Day. Most of our families are either deceased or live in other parts of the country...:(

8. $10 bucks for the pumpkin pie!
Wow, Is store bought pumpkin pie (one of the cheapest to make) really that expensive? I'm in the wrong business. Good grief, thats more than the energy costs to cook the entire meal.

"Balis said people could make a pumpkin pie a lot cheaper than the $10 dessert "Good Morning America" found at one store."
