Schools ban suggestive moves known as 'freak dancing' or 'grinding'
Schools ban suggestive moves known as 'freak dancing' or 'grinding'

The Wall Street Journal reports this morning that a number of high schools across the USA are banning a sexually suggestive type of dance called grinding.

We struggled to find a suitable description of these moves, which are also known as "freak dancing." Suffice it to say, they're are a lot like those you'd see during a lap dance.

"This is not just shaking your booty," Jason Ceyanes, the school superintendent in Argyle, Texas, tells the Journal. This is pelvis-to-pelvis physical contact in the private areas...and then moving around."

His decision to ban "freak dancing" and enforce the school's dress code has divided the community.

Both my little ones (1 yr and 2.5 years) are girls and its great truly its a love I could have never imagined. It changes you, I remember watching crash and being nearly in tears *I said nearly* when the little girl tries to help her father because of the 'invisible cloak' he gave her.. I was mighty pissed with the writers for putting me through that..

I know someday Ill get lethal injection for what I do to the first slack jawed idiot who tries to court my daughter but hey, dems' da breaks..

10. Aw, hell, we did it in the late 50s
at parties when there were no parents around. The best thing about a standing dry hump is that nobody ever got a disease and no girl ever got pregnant from it. I'm sure a few guys had to go clean their pants out, but what the heck?

Every generation is going to come up with this one and it will never fail to freak out the generation before them who thought they discovered it all by themselves and their kids should know better.

16. Good. That doesn't belong at school dances.
As a former high school teacher and dance chaperone, I've seen more than my fair share. Basically, it's dry humping--cut two holes in their clothes, and they're going at it on the dance floor in front of everyone.

Do you really want the other adults watching that? If the chaperones don't break it up, they have to watch it (since fights often break out on the edges of the circle around the dancers). I don't go to high school dances to watch porn-like moves by minors, thanks.

Do you really want all of the other students watching that? It's private behavior, not public behavior. It ruins reputations (a girl who lets a guy rub himself all over her at a school dance is usually labelled a slut by the end of the dance), it ruins relationships (guys who dance with girls who aren't their girlfriends often cause all sorts of fights), and it ruins the evening of the chaperones.

If they want to do it in house dances or in teen clubs, they can go ahead and do it there. It's not appropriate for school.

29. As long as it's not on school property and I'm not patrolling, fine.
In my experience, they'd do both anyway. They'd dance like that in the gym and then leave to go to a hotel or private party and end up having sex anyway.

My thing is don't make the rest of us watch.

I was never quite clear why titillation and cock-teasing was permitted, encouraged and sanctioned by the school.

Dancing IS sex...standing up with your clothes on. That's the only reason guys do it. (and why Baptists aren't allowed to) You'll notice that very, very few guys ever voluntarily dance once they have a regular sex partner.

And while we are at it, can you please explain cheer leading to me? Find the cutest, hottest, girls in the school, dress them up in tight tops and very short skirts, and then have them do cartwheels in front of a bleacher full of horny teenage boys who are just at the right age to have testosterone squirting out of their ears. How is that not sexual harassment? Or at the very least cruel and unusual punishment?

30. Dancing isn't sex. It's sensual. There's a difference.
I grew up not being allowed to dance (Nazarene, not Baptist, but still). In college, I danced at college-hosted dances in Russia (praying my Nazarene college wouldn't find out and put me on social probation when I got back). We didn't partner up, we were just in groups, moving to music. It wasn't sex. It was just sensual movement, and yes, there's a difference.

As for cheerleaders, I don't get that, either, really. I understand the gymnastic component as sport, but when they don't know the difference between offense and defense and yet are supposed to lead the crowd in cheers for the team, it makes no sense.

23. I agree knitter..
What people don't understand unless they are involved in chaperoning dances is that as a chaperone you have the parents who are yelling that you are letting it go on, and the kids who are yelling that you don't. It's a no-win situation unless there are some parameters. Personally I set mine at not chaperoning anymore, I just got to old to deal with either the kids, or their parents (who I can remember chaperoning at dances in their time).

Funny how 30-40 year old parents can not remember what they were like in the late 70's and early 80's..........I can.

ps. I teach 8th graders, that's why I mention the 30 year olds.

27. That's where I'm at.
Anytime I'm asked if I'll chaperone a school dance, I explain that at my last job, if I was forced to watch people dry humping in order to collect my pay check, I'd file a sexual harassment complaint on my own behalf. No difference here. I have less than no desire to see my 14 year old students rutting. Ewwww. If two teachers did that in front of the kids, we'd be fired.

If the school wants to host a dry humping party in our building, it's their own business. I won't stand in their way, but I also won't lift a finger to help, and I don't understand why it's a school-sponsored activity.

If kids want to do that at their own parties, though, hey, go for it. It's also not the school's job to tell them what they can do outside of school hours.

31. I remember the last dance Hubby chaperoned with me.
It was a 9th grade dance, and it was awful. A teacher friend of mine was assaulted (group of guys surrounded her while one of them started rubbing himself against her back--she reached up, grabbed his wrist, and twisted him to the ground and told him she'd call the cops if he touched her again), the kids threatened to riot when we broke up the huge simulated-sex pit they'd formed when the DJ played a song we'd banned, and four kids were kicked out for getting drunk on campus. At a girls high school. Ugh. Hubby refused to chaperone ever again after that, but it was part of my contract, so I had to keep going to dances and breaking couples up and doing patrol around the other areas the kids had access to.

'cause I sure remember we had dances and there was a lot of groping and grinding and casual dry humping going on. And the usual tools outraged at yutes and their hormonal urges, determined to stamp out depravity etc.

Yes better not let them grind at the school dance. That will stop the little brats. Or at least it will stop you from seeing what they are up to, which is really the important thing here. After all you don't want the schools to provide them with a place to do 'it'. Keep it out of sight kids. That's what's important.
