Today is the anniversary of the first Calvin & Hobbes strip
Edited on Sun Nov-18-07 05:09 PM by JohnnyRingo
Bill Watterson was always my favorite cartoonist.

The philosphical depth of content combined with his simple visual cues combined to make C&H a daily joy for ten all too short years.

Watterson resides in nearby (to me) Chagrin Falls Ohio, and his mother lived for a time here in my town at a local rest home. I always hoped to meet him one day, but...all I could have done was gush over his greatness.

Imagine my delight to find an archive of every single one of those strips to relive a decade of satire, childhood innocence, and grown-up laughter.

Goodbye DU, I'll see you all again in about a week, when I'm done

BTW...the entire archive is downloadable at about 100MB

1. Thank you for the link
My two cats were named Calvin and Hobbes. Hobby never came home about 8 years ago. Calvin lived to a ripe old age and passed just about two years ago.

Calvin and Hobbes was my first read every day.

6. *Sniff*
God, I miss those strips. He went out on top.

: )

Red and Rover may eventually mature to come close; but there'll never be another one quite like this.

9. Red and Rover is currently
my favorite, but gosh do I miss Calvin and Hobbes! R&R has a nice quality to it but doesn't have the same edge. I liked Foxtrot too, but we don't get in our paper, maybe need to look online.

7. YOU JUST MADE MY DAY!!!
The entire series was on-line a few years ago, but it suddenly disappeared. I believe I have ALL of the books, but I enjoyed the internet version even more. I used to (literally) spend HOURS at my computer on that.

THERE GOES THE REST OF THE DAY!

10. I just downloaded the entire 100MB file.
Best use of 11 minutes I've made, in a loooong time! I'm hoping I'll be able to view it in my Nokia N800 handheld. But if not, I'm still DELIGHTED to have a permanent copy that won't suddenly disappear.

Thanks again!

13. I've been looking everywhere for something like this.
Calvin and Hobbes should be required reading for all children before they reach age 10.

And then again for all adults before they reach age 25.
