Puppy Showcase

Hunte opens doors to huge facility

GOODMAN, Mo. -- Steve Rook is the president of a company that buys and sells 90,000 puppies each year, but he would never think of replacing "Jake," his 18-year-old dachshund.

<snip>

Hunte is one of the largest puppy distributors in the world. Located in Goodman, Mo., just across the Oklahoma state line, Hunte buys and sells purebred puppies for markets in 30 states that include Ohio, Illinois and Florida.

A significant number of the puppies come from licensed breeders in Oklahoma, the second-largest puppy-producing state in the nation behind Missouri. The breeders are licensed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

"Jake is my $20,000 dog," Rook said. "He's had two back surgeries and he gets acupuncture treatment but he still gets around. I made a commitment to take care of him no matter what."

Puppies and dogs supplied by the Hunte Corporation are often the products of a puppy mill. These puppies and dogs are are what you get with massive inbreeding. They receive poor veterinary care, have an extreme tendency towards cogenital defects and tend to lack any form of socialization. These are just a few of the problems that can be encountered.

The HUNTE CORPORATION is dealing in puppies and dogs and making thousands of dollars off of the miserable lives that the puppies and dogs live, many of which end up for sale in pet stores and on the internet. I might also add that the HUNTE CORPORATION uses God as their prop to justify their despicable actions.

4. I think about it constantly
I briefly owned a dog that I got from a "breeder" that lied to me about the dog (it was 5 years old and had been very abused). Said dog had numerous medical problems including hip dysplasia, parasites and was so scared you couldn't hardly get near the poor thing.

The dog was very sick and nothing could be done to help him and I had no choice but to have him put out of his pain and misery after just a few months. I spent almost $3,000.00 on this poor dog and I vowed on his dead body that I would do all I could do to bring awareness to this issue.

It has not gotten any better and this practice continues on and one of the main culprits in this scenario which keeps it going is the AKC which goes to the dog auctions and registers the newly purchased puppy mill dogs on the spot. The AKC plays dumb about this whole thing as they merrily go along collecting fees and making lots of money off of the misery.

As I am typing, there is a dog auction going on in the Comfort Inn in Ohio somewhere. This is what these puppy millers have had to resort to being their bond to have the auctions was not renewed. Now they simply book a room at the local Comfort Inn and run an ad (bring this add and get $100 off) in the newspapers.

May my poor dog RIP and I will not stop trying to bring awareness to this issue until it stops, you can COUNT on that.

10. If you want to read a good book about how the AKC ruins dogs, check out

"Dogs Wars" by Daniel McCaig.

It's about the drama surrounding the AKC recognizing Border Collies against the wishes of the Border Collie community, but it touches on other breeds.

11. They supply PetLand and most of the other "puppy stores"
in malls, etc. Never buy a dog from a store.

Fucking criminals, they are.

12. When we lived in Tally
we were ready to get a standard poodle. I refused to get any puppy from someone I had not visited. We went to the local dog show to talk to people, but no, uh, bites.
Then, I found a husband/wife breeder on the internet in Panama City, we went to visit, they had puppies ready to go within the week (at 8 weeks, that's the law in FL).
Best. Dog. In. The. World. He'll be 7 in January.
Gotta go feed him now. Doggie's daddy is wrapped in the Cowboys/Indians game.
