Just A Familty Dispute? - State Dept official asks to cancel Blackwater hearing
State Dept official asks to cancel Blackwater hearing
Sat Nov 17, 2007 7:35pm EST

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The lawyer for State Department Inspector General Howard Krongard asked on Saturday that he not be called to testify before Congress on discrepancies between his statements and those of his brother over the brother's ties to the Blackwater security firm.

"There is no legitimate purpose to be gained by publicly pitting two brothers against each other," Barbara Van Gelder wrote in a letter to Rep. Henry Waxman, chairman of the government oversight panel.

The two brothers had differing recollections about whether Alvin "Buzzy" Krongard told Howard Krongard he was taking an advisory board position with Blackwater, which protects U.S. diplomats and other State Department officials in Iraq. Howard recalled Alvin stating he was not taking the position, and Alvin recalled saying he was taking it, the lawyer wrote.

"Alvin does not claim to have ever made any effort to inform Howard of the Blackwater position despite its obvious relevance to Howard's oversight responsibilities," Van Gelder wrote. The letter asked Waxman not to hold the hearing.

1. Just move along. Nothing to see hear. Just like all the crimes scenes the
Bush administration has left throughout the years.

3. IMO, they should be called just to explain how they managed to amass any kind of power
with nicknames like "Buzzy" and "Cookie".

Or is that the secret to political and financial success?

4. Can Ya See The Sweat
Buzzy's thrown Cookie under the bus big time. Now Waxman wants to bring Buzzy in to drive the bus over him a second time.

How Cookie can stay around after all the pummeling he's taken shows what a real asshat he is. Anyone with any integrity...caught up in so much conflict of interest and now possible perjury, should have resigned a long time ago. Cookie knows Waxman has him by the short-hairs and isn't going to his execution without being dragged in. No use, Waxman has the subpoena power and Cookie's gonna have to answer questions or face contempt...even adding obstruction charges to his current perjury. One hell of a reputation for an "inspector general".

I can't put a finger on it, but there seems to be someone gunning for Blackwater out there...the company has been taking such a beating over the past couple weeks after years of being nearly invisible.

14. The Greed Factor
"The Lords work" is a smoke screen to cover all the money and "thrills" Prince and his bloodsuckers have in common. If it truly was "lords work", they'd do it for free...this is all about the Benjamins and the Chenney plan to turn the US treasury and the defense budget into a welfare system for his contractor buddies. Money doled out without any accounting to "get 'er done"...playing on "the lords work" and "national security" and "free enterprise" to stuff pockets and play dominist games.

Methinks (as posted above) Blackwater jumped the shark when it pissed off the Iraqi government and the knives are now out on several fronts (I suspect the CIA is also leaking things to make the waters murkier) to take Prince and his budddies down. Maybe its competitors standing by to pick up the money Prince loses as well as a lot of ego.

Waxman didn't create this mess...the brothers Krongard did.

Cheers...

It's like the story about training the mule - you have to hit him between the eyes with a two-by-four to get his attention, THEN you can talk nice and get him to do what you want

Blackwater jumped the shark when they mowed down 17 civilians and finally got a little bit of the attention they - and many others - deserved all along

The moving "selling Iraq" details PLENTY of examples that could/should have been subject to far more scrutiny even than Waxman is giving Blackwater now

The State Department knows it.

"Oh, Mr. Prosecutor, you can't ask me to testify against HIM - we're both members of the same street gang!"

9. Sounds like DOS I/G Howard Krongard is having second thoughts about that earlier perjury.
Nothing like piling on when it comes to perjury.

15. Condi Rices blackwater mercenary army is on the run... good
In my opinion blackwaters job was to prolong the war, and they did it. The violence in Iraq has fallen off mostly because we have them in partial check. I would say send them all home, but who wants people like them in their community.
