I saw Jeremy Scahill speak tonight. The guy is BRILLIANT.
Edited on Sun Nov-18-07 02:33 AM by BeHereNow
The BEST part of his talk?
His introduction and expose of the CLINTON administration's involvement
in the crimes against the Iraqi people, PRIOR to the Bush administration.
Like Gore Vidal has said, we are the United States of Amnesia.
Think Hillary is a good candidate? Think again.

From that point, he continued to divulge further details about Blackwater and
the Cookie/Buzzy Krongard connection to the Bush administration and Blackwater,
as well as a plethora of other information- the guy is a walking/talking encyclopedia
of history and information!

In short, it was the best evening out I've had in a long time.

PLUS, I I bought my Christmas presents for my dad and brother-
copies of Scahill's book (naturally) which Jeremy graciously signed for me
during a smoke break on the patio.

I can not tell you how impressed I am with his clarity and eleoquent delivery
as a speaker of the TRUTH.
He is truly an American, no make that global, treasure.
If you haven't bought his book yet- DU it.

1. I'm guessing you went because you already knew you agreed with him.
Just a guess, of course.

4. I went because I have been SO impressed with his interviews.
I've seen him a few times; various interviews- most notably
the Bill Moyers one.
I was struck with his delivery of the facts, much like Scott Ritter.
He was even more impressive in person.
And a really nice person too, I had a brief conversation
with him before he spoke and during a break.
Really nice, down to earth and intelligent young man.
I don't think you can "agree" or "disagree" with his work.
You can listen to the facts and learn, or not.

2. It's pretty well known the economic sanctions on Iraq killed tens of thousand of Iraqis.
The blame for all those innocent lives destroyed rests at the feet of many, not just with the Clinton legacy.

7. And he did point that out.
"The blame for all those innocent lives destroyed rests at the feet of many, not just with the Clinton legacy."

He did refer to the timeline, all the way back to 1984, I believe.
The fact is it has been perpetuated for DECADES, and yes, Bill Clinton was party to it.

12. I think the problem is extremely deep-seated in America, on Wall Street.
It's so deeply entrenched that it shadows both parties. If you want to know the real capital of the Empire, it's New York City. D.C. is just another arena in which they exercise their influence over the country and the world. I remain hopeful that one day they will fall, that their power will ultimately be broken, but I fear that when their power is finally depleted, they will already have pushed this Republic into disintegration, that the Empire will break apart not that different from the Soviet Union.

10. It is NOT an individual; it is a way of doing business.
Bill, Hill, George, or Dick-
the individuals are not the problem- the
collective criminality is shared among MANY.

17. No, he did not go into any of that-
Edited on Sun Nov-18-07 02:52 AM by BeHereNow
Scott Ritter is covering that turf- Iran, etc...
What Scahill is doing is exposing the
corporatist agenda and cronyism of BOTH
the democratic and republican representatives.
The congress is completely ineffectual in
addressing or even acknowledging the coporate abuses.

Personally, I don't think there is much hope,
but I am so glad that someone is documenting it all;
For the children, who will someday ask,
"How did this happen?"

8. Nothing really-
Spoke more of the systemic problem in the government over all.
About the fact that VERY few Congress criiters even want to
know, much less talk about it.

18. Oh, they know about it
They just don't want to talk about it because most of them are part of the problem. But I only have to look at campaign contributions to know who won't be getting my vote.

14. He is brilliant and a great communicator.
And of course Clinton's policy was horrendous for the Iraqi people.

And, the NSA briefed Bush when he came into office about the wiretaps. As far as I can tell, the program originated under Clinton but no one will say it.

We've got to get over this idolatry. We put people into office to forward our values, not the other way around.

And obviously, we would never fight about the Christmas present list!
