and I'm thinking poor me - can't get anyone in to fix it until tomorrow or maybe Monday.

Now, I'm thinking about those poor people in Iraq - many of them don't even have a home anymore, thanks to Bush, let alone a sewer line to plug up.

I realize how lucky I am to live in America. There are worse things than a plugged up toilet.

5. I had a similar experience a few weeks back, where a toilet overflowed
Edited on Sat Nov-17-07 08:40 PM by Emit
for waaaay too long and we had sewage leaking downstairs through a light fixture -- like a classic scene from that silly movie, The Money Pit. And, I had the exact same thoughts that you describe -- my mind went straight to folks in Iraq, just as you detail -- and I thought, "Buck up! Emit, there are worse things in life to be concerned about." I think it helps to put these annoyances of modern life into perspective when we imagine ourselves in other peoples' shoes, so to speak.

Good luck, by the way.

9. Maybe this song will help lift your spirits
Edited on Sat Nov-17-07 09:14 PM by derby378
I think it dates back to at least the 1930s, and comes from the UK:

They’re moving father's grave to build a sewer.
They're moving it regardless of expense.
They're shifting his remains
To put in nine-inch drains
To irrigate some plush bloke's residence.

Now what's the use in having a religion,
If when you're dead your troubles never cease?
If some rich city chap
Wants a pipeline for his crap,
He doesn't let a workman sleep in peace.

Now father in his life was not a quitter,
I don't suppose he'll be a quitter now.
Cause when the job's complete,
He'll haunt that sewer sweet,
And they'll only pull the chain when he'll allow.

Oh, won't there be some bleeding consternation;
And won't them city toffs begin to rave!
It's more than they deserve:
They had the bloody nerve
To muck about a British workman's grave!

13. I hadn't thought about that song for years!
I always heard it as "Willie's grave" though. It's a favorite of trad jazz bands these days.

14. Toilets - They are backed up to one another.
The bathtub filled and over flowed and so did my shower. It was a GD mess. BTW - New neighbor fixed it. It was a root from the huge ficus tree in his yard.

20. My heart goes out to you. My sister suffered the same thing this summer
It was the city's fault..long story, but about 50 people on her street had the same thing. Anywhere from 1 inch to 3 feet of sewage in their basements.

How deep was it?

And most of them don't have homes thanks to Bush. And in the case of New Orleans, thanks to Pelosi.
