There's a presidential debate happening RIGHT NOW
It's the debate on the environment and alternative energy being held in L.A. All the dem candidates from both sides were invited, only Kucinich, Edwards and Clinton are there. Each candidate is given half an hour- 15 minutes to explain their positions, and 15 minutes for questions. There are people there from Grist, NRDC and other organizations.

Here's a live blogging link:

Edwards, Clinton Aim at Climate Change
LOS ANGELES — On a day when a U.N. panel warned of growing peril from climate change, John Edwards accused the oil and gas industry Saturday of deploying hundreds of lobbyists to Washington to resist efforts to free the nation from its dependence on fossil fuels.

48. Local Edwards and Hillary campaigns held rallies outside
I was there rooting for Edwards outside near the VA grounds where this forum was taking place. He stopped briefly to say hello to his supporters. Hillary was running late and her supporters didn't get to see her.

I hope this will be archived on the Grist website so I can see what was happening inside!

16. I started watching late, but I really liked what I saw of Hillary.
She said that once the Bush administration is out, that there can be a give and take discussion with other countries.
Right now, its a one-way conversation with the U.S. not listening. She also complimented Gore and said that he helped to establish our country's credibility in this area.

Oh yes. She was good!

Even going so far as to say she adopted Boxer's ideas.

Whenever she participates in this type of forum I am always truly amazed at her intellectual depth. She is married to the only other person that has always amazed me in the same manner.

25. No, he isn't, and you're making yourself look foolish in both of these threads.
Both Hillary and Edwards have been great. You only see what you want to see, and have been doing that all along. Try being objective, just once. You might find you like it. It sure beats being a blinded partisan with his head up his ass.

28. I indicated that I did not see Hillary's opening statement.
If she did the same sort of typical "campaign rally" speech that is off point in this forum I would have been critical of her for the same reason.

Don't lecture.

43. I felt that I got a good feel for his position and specific plan
Making companies pay for polluting and using some of that money to help develop the renewable technologies along with giving breaks to us so we can afford the new technologies for heating and other home uses is pretty specific. That reminds me of what Hartmann says about Germany and how they give low interest loans to its people so they can afford solar equipment. I liked hearing that sort of specificity. He's not who I'm voting for in the primary but I liked what I heard.

Everyone races to get out as much as they can in these frenetic forums. They're just not that C-Span "In Depth" kind of atmosphere that I'd like to see. And I sure would like to see that. A nice lengthy discussion of topics. I'd watch them.

Btw, thanks for posting the link to the video. I hope it'll be available so I can see the DK and HRC segments. I missed DK's altogether.

Bye!

38. man, that was great, wasn't it forkboy?
ALL debates should be organized along these lines- you could vary intro times and stuff when you have more participating, but essentially I think all debates should have a panel of experts asking the questions, and it should be along these lines. Glad I found out about it, and could turn other DUers on to it.

40. I'd love to see a debate where each person gets their own time like that.
It's pretty clear I'm no Hillary fan but she was awesome in this, and I think this format would let ALL of them shine a lot more than what we see on the other debates where it's reduced to a cagematch of one liners and gotcha moments. This is the kind of format that actually serves the public.

42. I'm just so stoked
that anyone's doing something like this, and so bummed that it got no publicity, most of the dems didn't show, and it wasn't even on C-SPAN. We need much more of this and not the awful smarmy disgusting gotcha "debates" they try and shove down our throats. I was impressed as hell by all of what I heard. And even though I'm committed to voting for Clinton if she is the nominee, this made it easier to do that.

Real substance for a change. However, I think this is one issue where there aren't really huge differences among Dem candidates (not counting Gore, of course).
