I'm leaning towards John Edwards...
And basically there are two main reasons currently why: I like his stance regarding the climate crisis, and I like that he seems genuine regarding his concern for working Americans. However, I would like to hear him state (unless he did and I missed it) that he would do more to rescind the Patriot Act and do away with unitary executive power. And I state this as someone who is down on the political system as a whole but realizes that I must still do my duty and vote. Therefore, at this point I am leaning towards John Edwards, though I am also very impressed with Dennis Kucinich and his courage in standing up for impeachment. The next couple of months leading into the spring will be the deciding factor for me, and also the presidential forum Mr. Gore is putting together in NH next month.

1. Keep on leaning...
I seriously think Edwards is our best chance for real progress in this country. With Hillary's polarity with the Cons and her being an extension of the DLC, I just think America can do better. That crack she made about the charts and NAFTA really hurt my heart, since I was a big supporter of Prez Clinton's NAFTA push in the 90's, and the damage it has wrought. Edwards seems to have the most up-side potential of the Big 3, while Hillary has the highest negatives where 50% of the electorate claims there is no way they will vote for her. I don't want to lose the White House again...we see how disasterous that has been since 2000. Edwards gives me hope where all i see from Hillary is more political infighting and not making real progress in the things that matter. As Edwards says..."We (the candidates) will be fine, but will America"?

20. And he has led the way on climate change
Edited on Sat Nov-17-07 11:36 PM by RestoreGore
Which is very important now. This is where I see Mr. Gore as very instrumental in taking this crisis and making it primary in all of the candidates' platforms which it must be to get it into the consciousness of more people. I don't know if he will endorse anyone and that is really his choice, but perhaps the presidential forum on climate change in NH next month that he will be handling is his way of working towards that decision. Right now I like Edwards's plan the best of all of them and I am looking at all of them on an equal footing.

18. I have to read up more on his healthcare proposals
I prefer single payer but am open to looking at plans like his that will hopefully bring about competition which will result in lower costs... hopefully though not at the expense of quality.

38. YES! John Edwards is committed to universal health care!
Single payer is unrealistic, but John Edwards supports his UHC plan TRANSITIONING to single payer.
http://www.johnedwards.com/issues/health-care

This is how he plans to do it - grassroots putting pressure on Congress.
IOW - Edwards is EMPOWERING the people around a specific issue!! A president encouraging us to pressure Congress critters to implement UHC!
Amazing!
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/peter-dreier/john-edwards-organizer_b_66146.html

During an interview, Hillary stated she opposed single payer. But "promises" to have UHC by the END of her 2nd term - (after the Insurance lobbyists have funded her re-election.)

The man has got the middle class and the working poor in his eye when he speaks. I've voted for Edwards before and I'll vote for him again. The man's a winner as far as I'm concerned.

His appeal cuts across the spectrum. All women I know like him.

Compared to what the Republicans have to offer my guess is Edwards would win in a landslide.

7. Look elsewhere.
I don't buy his populist shtick at all. I find him to be a complete phony with no real core values. He'd say anything and do anything if it's popular in the polls.

I'd suggest Biden, Obama, or possibly even Clinton instead.

Not a substantive one, anyway.

10. Tell that to my husband. He'll laugh at you.
He just switched his voter registration to Democrat only so he can caucus for Edwards.

He doesn't see him as a phoney at all. He likes him. He thinks a Democrat will win the next election so he wants to make sure it is one that he can respect.

Edwards is the one for him.

16. I don't believe for a second that he's not genuine (if he's going to fake something,
why not fake being moderate, which is a surer route to primary victory, as history shows). But say he is faking it, I'd still vote for him because, at least he's running on a mandate to help the working class and shift power to the people. If this is what he's running on, then this is what he's asking his presidency's success to be measured by, and I'd be thrilled if he got elected and his mandate were the themes of his campaign.

19. And my primary has been moved up this time
Usually NJ is at the end of the line, but this time it is in February. I will admit that in 2004 since the primary was in June and Kerry had already been picked, I wrote in Al Gore on my ballot in the primary. This time I will have to make a choice to vote for either Edwards or Kucinich myself.

21. I'm also interested in Edwards. His stance for the working class
is an important step toward moving this country in the direction I think would be most beneficial for many. While I had not thought about the patriot act, I can't believe that anyone with so much regard for the citizenry of this country would allow such a thoughtless act to continue. But let's have him comment on it.

24. My heart's with Dennis ...
... but my vote will likely go to Edwards ( unless by some miracle Gore somehow seeks the nomination ). There's no reason John Edwards should not be President ( and a million why Hillary shouldn't ). He speaks Truth to Power, his heart is in the right place, and he has the best chance of any of our candidates to make inroads into traditionally Republican strongholds ( unlike the current Corporate "frontrunner" who half the country would never vote for in a million years ).

Isn't it about time to finally back a WINNER, fellow Democrats ? The stakes are just too high this time to do otherwise.

35. I think Edwards could sway alot of blue collar republicans.
My Aunt has voted straight republican for 35+ years and buys into all of the republican smears against our candidates - she still tries to hit me with the "Al Gore invented the internet" bs. Lately, she has been going out of her way to tell me how much she likes Edwards. I think she may be having an awakening, of sorts.

37. snip from The Nation:
(page 21, Nov. 19, 2007 issue)

Probably the most retrograde element of Hillary Clinton's and Barack Ogama's foreign policy platforms is the proposal to increase the Army and Marines by at least 80,000 troops (John Edwards has refused to join the "bidding war" over who can propose the largest troop increases).

While Edwards aims to strengthen the military, he doesn't believe sheer numbers are the only way to go about it.

Oh, and when asked if, as president, he would keep troops in Iraq, Edwards said NO.

I like Edwards more and more all the time.

39. And he is against nuclear and liquid coal
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-MPuF2WIVQ

I'm leaning more now, because nuclear energy is not "clean" and it is costly, and it pollutes our waterways. I find it laughable that those who lobby for it now consider it "clean" energy just to fit it into a sustainable energy plan to get votes. It isn't when you take into account the entire process from uranium mining to building the huge plants to the residual waste and the dangers presented by them. It is time for us to move away ftom the past and go into the future. I like that John Edwards is willing to come right out and say no to nuclear.

41. Edwards ranks at the top with legitimate environmental groups...
However, some months back a fake environmental group was created by Republican backers who ranked Edwards at the bottom and distributed their phony results extensively.

There was nothing to it.

WHen I challenged people pushing this report's results and asked for proof, they just disappeared and never responded.

Edwards is very pro-environment and has been endorsed by top environmental groups for his stands on environmental issues.
