Republican Submits Letter To House Speaker


State Rep. Bob Allen resigned on Friday, one week after being found guilty of soliciting an undercover officer for sex in a park restroom.

The Merritt Island Republican submitted his resignation to House Speaker Marco Rubio, who had pressed Allen to give up his legislative seat since his Nov. 9 conviction.

Allen was sentenced on Thursday to six months of probation for agreeing to pay for oral sex to an undercover officer in a restroom at Space View Park.

Allen had faced up to 60 days in jail and a $500 fine. Besides probation, Allen also was ordered to pay a $250 fine and undergo sexually transmitted disease testing, and he is not allowed to return to Space View Park.

Allen was accused of peering over a stall at Titusville Officer Danny Kavanaugh and then agreeing to pay $20 to perform oral sex on the policeman.

1. Rumor here in Merritt Island all along

was that he would resign but not until after the November election. Guess the theory of the rumor is that if he had resigned BEFORE they would have held an election for his seat and a Dem might have won....if he resigned AFTER Crist can appoint a repunk and then that repunk would have the advantage of incumbency next time around....

Have absolutely no idea if there is any truth to this but a few of my neighbors were suggesting this right after the story originally broke....and lookey here he resigns AFTER the November election .... how convenient.
