Karen Hughes says we MUST take Al Qaeda's threats seriously!!!!11111
How much are we paying her for this "expert advice" again?

====

US Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs Karen Hughes in Guadalajara Friday said terrorist group Al Qaeda's threats should be "taken seriously."

Mexico and the United States should not take these threats "lightly, but we have to take them seriously," the official said when asked about reports published on Thursday that an alleged online magazine published by Al Qaeda urged the group's activists to strike any country supplying oil to the United States, including Canada, Mexico and Venezuela.

According to DPA, Hughes was offering a lecture at the Guadalajara University Center of Social and Human Sciences.

On Friday, Mexico reinforced security of state-run oil firm Pemex's facilities and nuclear powerhouse Laguna Verde, official sources said.

45. Why must you have to resort to sexism to register your criticism?
I don't care how much you despise her (as I do as well), there's no GOOD reason to resort to gender slurs. None whatsoever. So yes, I take offense. Would you call, oh, Lindsay Graham a fag when you're upset with him?? Or Condi Rice the "n" word??

Surely not -- at least not publicly.

Then don't call rightwing women names that are clearly gender slurs. 'kay??

self revealing.

Why is this @sshole in Guadalajara? I mean, there is no al Qaida presence in GUADALAJARA.

What there is is a populace who just felt the heavy hand of BushCo steal their elections and then muster a Fascist response to their protests. Complete with torture and dead civilians and renditions. And with full media coverage. :sarcasm:

God help me.

Ugly American, table of 1.

38. it's an effort to support FeCal's failing production
Mexico's big oil fields are running dry. Felipe Calderon, Fecal to his friends, needs to be able to charge more for less. That'll never fly, so what better way to raise a few quick bucks than have the US toss a few billion into the government's coffers to help defend it against "terrorism"?

Check this out:
http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-pemex8feb08,1,3031907.story?ctrack=1&cset=true

It's also a great way to deflect concern from the genocide of indigenous people across Mexico, most notably in Chiapas in recent months.

Guadalajara is to Mexico what San Francisco is to the US. Just about the most liberal city in Mexico, politically, socially, economically.

Good luck getting a sympathetic audience. They're probably laughing their asses off down there.

29. Circa 2001: Hughes' ideas on selling the war to Americans
How to Sell an Invisible War

Saturday, Sep. 29, 2001 By JAMES CARNEY

(snip)

If you're confused by Bush's mixed message, you're not alone. "It's the big conundrum for the administration," says one of the President's advisers. "We're saying, 'This is serious business, this is war.' But we're also saying, 'Return to normal, get back to your lives.' Obviously there's a conflict in that."

Soliciting PR strategies

Enough of a conflict, in fact, to have prompted Bush's two most trusted aides, Karl Rove and Karen Hughes, last week to begin quietly soliciting ideas from GOP consultants and public relations executives on ways to keep Americans focused on the war effort even as national life returns to normal. Proposals include everything from benefit concerts to patriotic television ads to a special web site giving up-to-the-minute progress reports on the war.

One possibility under consideration: a televised mega-concert with performers celebrating American values like freedom and democracy. Bush advisers both inside and outside the White House thought the star-studded telethon that aired Sept. 21 was, as one put it, "very nice, but a little too Hollywood and New York" — i.e., liberal. While the telethon focused on the victims of the terrorist attacks and featured multiple calls for ethnic tolerance, the White House-sponsored event would be aimed at "educating a new generation of Americans on what war is all about." And the talent, say some, would be different, too. Think Lee Greenwood instead of Fred Durst, Brooks and Dunn in place of U2, Tom Selleck rather than Brad Pitt. And way fewer candles.

we must take the Paki ISI funding of anti US terrorists seriously, not to mention, their arming of Taliban who are shooting at US soldiers. I wonder what Karen thinks about that. :eyes:

If you haven't seen it yet, it's airing today on LINK TV -- with an interview of DUer and genius Paul Thompson, the author of the 9/11 Timeline.

This regime has played the fear and "terra" card 100 times too many...there's little credibility on what these goons say. If anything, it makes us more vulnerable as if there is a real attack or disaster in a major city, people will be so numbed to the warnings they will not only ignore it, they've begun to ridicule it.

And I wouldn't normally say that about women in public life because studying them has been one of my hobbies.

But -- if you think about it, he's surrounded by slightly insane and mostly incompetent women. Condi, Karen, that nutcase PR person Victoria whatshername who helped run the "war" in Iraq, Harriet Miers. It's his personal band of wacky mommies who shield him from reality.

Too bad Molly Ivins is gone. I'd love to ask her if he's always had a Mommy bench.

47. I disagree. Not incompetent at all
Karen Hughes is nigh on brilliant as a propagandist and media manipulator. Her problem ended up being that the non-U.S. press wasn't manipulable.

Condi is quite an effective liar (as a rule), which is a key neocon tenet, as you no doubt know, and a pretty good manipulator as well. Since there is no real impetus in this administration for actually doing a good job for the people or the nation as a whole, she serves quite well in her role.

Harriet Miers too was far from incompetent -- at those things for which she was on the staff. She was a Bush insider and enabler, though, just like the others and on ThAT score you're 100% correct.
