Spaghetti Monster Featured At Religious Conference

World's Leading Religious Scholars To Meet In San Diego

Pasta Based Pseudo-Deity Will Appear On Agenda

SAN DIEGO (AP) ― When some of the world's leading religious scholars gather in San Diego this weekend, pasta will be on the intellectual menu. They'll be talking about a satirical pseudo-deity called the Flying Spaghetti Monster, whose growing pop culture fame gets laughs but also raises serious questions about the essence of religion.

The appearance of the Flying Spaghetti Monster on the agenda of the American Academy of Religion's annual meeting gives a kind of scholarly imprimatur to a phenomenon that first emerged in 2005, during the debate in Kansas over whether intelligent design should be taught in public school sciences classes.

9. Why can't humans be the most powerful omnipotent beings in the universe?
Or is that is what you are suggesting? I admit to being slow on the uptake.

12. That is only so when FSM CHOOSES to be the most powerful OB in the univ.
Although not all persons are aware of this, FSM has the power to choose, at any given strand of space time, his/her/F's preferred degree of 'mostpowerfullness'. So, technically, FSM is the most powerful omnipotent being in the universe only during those strands of space time along which FSM feels a 'noodly predisposition' to being top OB at that time. Sorry if I'm not expaining this well, but it came to me suddenly a moment ago in an apparent pastalenicular ramification of some sort. Even if in fact it is not true in an ordinary, pre-FSM thinking kind of way, its spaghetti-like logic, I think, makes it utterly obvoius.

Peace and blessed pastanesses to all.

(P.S. The Noodly Appendage-crushed gods, of course, occur pimarily in the (common) 'noodly presdipostion' strands.)

All you have to do is hang around for a few years, attract enough followers, and you too can move from lunatic fringe to cult to mainstream

No, I don't really think that.

But it's a great topic to discuss.

The lowly theologians tremble at his awsome majesty! The MSM has no words to decribe him! The fundamentalists are humilitated by his ability to plant fake evidence so that they believe humans and dinosaurs roamed the earth at the same time!

And how will sectarian wars be fought? olive oil at thirty paces? or with tiny bits of garlic, tossed with oregano, thyme, and crushed pine nuts?

24. Of course.
Lucas Johnston, the third Florida student, argues the Flying Spaghetti Monsterism exhibits at least some of the traits of a traditional religion -- including, perhaps, that deep human need to feel like there's something bigger than oneself out there.

He recognized the point when his neighbor, a militant atheist who sports a pro-Darwin bumper sticker on her car, tried recently to start her car on a dying battery.

As she turned the key, she murmured under her breath: "Come on Spaghetti Monster!"

It wouldn't be complete without the tired old mantra that even the most hardened Atheist still has to turn to a deity of some sort when things don't go right. :puke:

But I don't think "Oooohhh, Spaghetti Monster" as an orgasmic expression will ever catch on.
