A Giuliani nomination may split the rethugs beyond repair --- thankfully!
Edited on Fri Nov-16-07 05:13 PM by RiverStone
After the Dem convention next August, most of us will be supporting our nominee. Even with a healthy majority of DUers NOT wanting that nominee to be Hillary - an equally healthy majority of folks here will be voting Dem in the General regardless (if it is her). That of course, remains to be seen...

Being able to see shades of grey and stretching a bit have always been attributes of the Democratic party. Whereas many rethugs think in simple absolutes. My way or the highway type stuff - marching in lock-step.

So it is heartening for our chances when I read the RW wacko's fear of the Giuliani factor. He wins the nod, many pukes will go into an identity crisis. They simply can't mix and match. As evidenced by this story:

Washington, D.C. - Rep. Steve King of Iowa warned Thursday that the conservative underpinnings of the Republican party platform would be "sacrificed" if Rudy Giuliani becomes the Republican presidential nominee.

King, a leading conservative from western Iowa's heavily Republican 5th District, said he also fears the nomination of Giuliani would spur a third-party candidate on the right who would "sink" GOP chances of winning the White House.

"I don't know anybody else who has spoken publicly about that concern," he said in an interview in his office at the U.S. Capitol. "What's it take to be a spoiler? Not much."

King has not endorsed a candidate in the Republican race in advance of Iowa's Jan. 3 caucuses, but said he probably will do so soon. He said he has been closely watching Giuliani, who campaigned on Wednesday in King's congressional district, and he praised the former New York City mayor for his outstanding ability to lead in a crisis and his track record in New York.

But the congressman said his concerns center on four issues key to conservatives: opposition to abortion; opposition to same-sex marriage; a strong stance against illegal immigration; and Second Amendment gun rights. "All these things are essential to the Reagan coalition," he said, referring to the alliance of fiscal and social conservatives who backed President Reagan.

1. Why are they worrying so much? They don't have one candidate, whether

the party splits or not, that is a viable candidate. They're the saddest group of white pasty neo-cons I've ever seen. They should drink their kool-aid and just relax, then get real. None of them has a prayer IMO...

4. Interesting, this country might finally wind up with a true multiparty system
Or both the Dems and the 'Pugs might go away, to be replaced by something else. Hmmm, things could get interesting.

But my bet goes down on this, if Hillary gets the nod, this will prompt the 'Pugs to pull together, hold their nose and vote for whoever the 'Pug nominee is, even Gulliani. They hate Hillary that much. However the left will either stay home or go third party if Hillary gets the nod. Net outcome, if Hillary is the nominee, she's going to lose, and there's a good chance she'll take the Democratic majority with her.

5. there is no way Giuliani will get the nod
He has no chance. If he did, he would get killed in the general election. Repugs know this, and will never give him a majority of delegates.

Won't happen.
