Kerry takes on the Swift Boat Veterans (could net up to $1 million)
We interrupt this presidential campaign to bring you a blast from the not-so-distant past.

At a recent gala dinner for the American Spectator, Texas oil man T. Boone Pickens, a major contributor to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, apparently offered $1 million to anyone who could disprove any of the Swifties' claims about John Kerry's service in Vietnam.

In a letter sent to Pickes today, Kerry has accepted the challenge himself. "I welcome the opportunity to prove that you are a man of your word and that the so-called 'Swift Boat Veterans for Truth' lied," Kerry says in his letter. "While I am prepared to show they lied on allegation after allegation, you have generously offered to pay one million dollars for just one thing that can be proven false. I am prepared to prove the lie beyond any reasonable doubt."

Kerry proposes that he and Pickens meet at some mutually agreeable public forum in either Texas or Massachusetts to settle the score. The senator, who doesn't exactly need the $1 million himself, suggests that the oil man come prepared with a check made out to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, an organization that helps veterans with spinal cord injuries and diseases.

War Room Bonus Fact: Evidence of Pickens' offer comes via a post at RedState.com by Ben Domenech, whose name we last heard when he was resigning as a right-wing blogger for WashingtonPost.com amid revelations that he'd engaged in numerous acts of plagiarism.

14. He disproved it back then too. But the media was more interested
in giving the Smear vets air time as if they were credible.

5. Game, set, and match!
Kick ass and take names, JFK. (And the Paralyzed Vets of America was pure genius. That makes it damned near impossible for the RW asshat to weasel out of his commitment without suffering some seriously bad pub.)

Thanks for getting this out there CW.

Just didn't get as much press, is all. And the Smear vets insisted anyway that they were right despite all evidence to the contrary.

17. Ah. Thanks for the explanation
I'm glad he's confronting them finally. It was hard to do as a presidential candidate. Now that he is a Senator, it's easier to do things face to face, one on one.

20. Day-AM is right!
snippet~
"Kerry spokesman David Wade issued the following statement today in response to Rush Limbaugh, who said on his radio show that Kerry’s Swift Boat attackers in 2004, "were right on the money and nobody has disproven anything they claimed in any of their ads, statements, written commentaries, or anything of the sort."

"At first I thought, that’s not Rush, that’s just the OxyContin talking. Nonetheless, this is a despicable but unsurprising new lie from a man whose closest brush with combat came when customs officials tried to take away his Viagra."

"Damn. Note to Dems: The more you respond to right-wing smear with statements like these, the less you’ll be smeared."

Now, we're talkin' RESPONSE TEAM!

22. This is the kind of theater DEMS should engage in more often...GO JOHN!
I know, I know- it's too late for 2004.

But like the Dan Rather law suit, it's NOT too late for here on out. I'm all for settling the score and I respect Kerry more now than ever.

Call their bluff-I've been saying this for years- simply just call their bluff- it's not rocket science.
