"Suggested" Sunday Sermon: November 2, 2008 (Women in Authority)
Edited on Fri Nov-16-07 12:49 PM by CorpGovActivist
Many right-wing denominations put out "suggested" Sunday sermon lists for their member congregations' pastors, often with many weeks or even months covered.

The letters of St. Paul to the early Christian churches concerning the "proper" role of women in the household, in the Church, and in positions of authority in general have been suggested as a "timely topic" for Sunday, November 2, 2008. Especially crafty are the schedules that also factor in the state-by-state primary and caucus calendar.

Ugh.

On edit: more than 6.9 million Google hits show prevalence of this meme in right-wing circles

1. I went to my cousins church last year the sunday before the election for "friend day"
the invited "friends" included repubs in city, county, and state races with absolutely no democrats. I left after giving a good finger wagging to be cousin, and uncle.

2. Oh, You Could've Caused Soooooo Much More Mischief...
... by staying and asking uncomfortable questions of those "friends," including about their personal stances on adultery, etc.

4. And you could have asked the pastor how he felt about the church's tax exempt status.

7. And Whether Superchurches' Leaders...
... should be driving multiple expensive cars, without requiring new IRS schedules to show the amount of money spent on charitable works, like other non-profs.

3. Every time I see this I ask myself how they can explain away Deborah
A judge and prophetess in the OT. She was married, too, IIRC. She didn't exactly stay home and bake cookies.

The "Proverbs 31 Woman" was a businesswoman as well.

5. Because Deborah is OLD Testament
"good" Christians only read the parts of the OT that support their views.
