So, why do we call it Kyl-Lieberman?
Edited on Fri Nov-16-07 12:30 PM by Basileus Basileon
I was thinking about it, and I realized I don't know nearly as much about popular naming conventions as I thought I did. Kyl is the sponsor of the amendment, so we got that.

However, Lieberman is one of several co-sponsors. Lieberman, Coleman, Alexander, Ensign, Graham, Corker, Thune, and McCain all joined as co-sponsors. So my question is, was Lieberman the first to sign on as a co-sponsor, and thus got 'elevated'? Did he have some hand in writing it? Is it that he is not a Republican, and its supporters are trying to making it look like it's a bipartisan thing? Is it that he's poison to Democrats, and its detractors are trying to highlight his involvement?

Just wondering. If anyone could fill me in, that'd be great.

1. Usually the chief co-sponsor from the other side of the aisle (technically Joe)

gets their name on it--like Warner-Levin and Webb-Hagel--at least that's what I've observed.

5. Right. And in this case, Lieberman's the only non-GOP co-sponsor.
Every other name listed in the OP is a Republican.

2. Kyl is the Bush-backing Neocon. Lieberman is to show fake bi-partisanship
It's a ruse. "Look, a 'democrat' is on board, it must be okay!" Joe just whored himself out, as usual.

3. My guess...
is that Loserman is only mentioned in the naming of the bill as an attempt to somehow show a "bi-partisan" effort. I think that by having Loserman's name anyway associated with the bill actually works against it.

6. So that Democrats reading quickly will mistake it for "Kill Lieberman" and vote yes.
