Poll question: What issue will be the 'deciding factor' in the 2008 election
It won't be won on a single issue, but which issue will be the one that "tips it" to the winner?

1. wasnt the Iraq war the #1 factor last election, and what happened because of that
the dems refused to do anything to stop it. Will "end the war" be the Dems version of the Repubs "abortion debate". This meaning will the dems talk about war but never stop it because they know that is where most of their votes come from and if there is no war they might not be able to get the same votes???

2. I beleive the republicans are going to try to make it immigration.
I think they think it will be the most divisive issue.

7. It seems like that's all they want to talk about. Every time I see one of the local
R's like Brian Bilbray or Duncan Hunter on TV here, all they want to talk about is illegal immigration, even though most people aren't even thinking about it that much. They want to keep bringing it up again and again.

20. If you really
want to piss off the neonuts regarding illegal immigration, just remind them that during the mid 80's their exalted President Reagan was the one who invoked BLANKET AMNESTY for ALL illegal aliens under the promise of "securing the borders".

6. I am tempted to say the economy or immigration, or even terra (especially
if there's an attack), but the country is pretty much divided about the war, and there are few wafflers or people who don't have an opinion on it, I suspect. You are either for continuing it, or you are not. Therefore you will either vote Republican or Democrat. The other issues have gray areas and middle ground.

8. Iraq war should be, but watch the GOP they will try and make Immigration the key issue
and unless the Dems fight back they will try and make us soft on illegals and other Roverian tactics. They have nothing to run on that is positive so they always create diversions and I think it will be immigration along with their old stand by gay marriage.

11. It seems like that's all the Rs want to talk about.
And the people who listen to right-wing radio are always willing to talk about immigration, but I don't see the general public talking about it at all - and I live 15 miles from the border. The Rs want to talk about it every time there is a microphone in front of them.

15. fixed voting machines
oh, you mean the excuse they use to cover their butts?

The real issues are economic and the war. The right wing media will make it seem the real issue is gay immigrants or something.

17. I would LIKE the issue to be national commitment to developing alternative, clean energy
That would address four of the specified issues (war, economy, climate, terrorism).

19. Wind and solar seem to be getting more popular
Yesterday on Interstate 8 we passed to large flat trucks, each with one of those modern windmills on it - the center hub of it is as big as a large van. There must be money in it in the long run, because they are putting more and more of them up in the mountains east of here.

There is also a solar farm right next to Interstate 8 in Alpine, CA, that has about 30 or 40 of these flat panel things:

25. I think the Democratic candidates, in general, are underestimating
the backlash against illegal immigration. The 70% of voters opposed to New York driver's licenses for them should be a tip off, but Obama is in favor of it. I think that sealed his fate. Democrats can't win with just Democratic voters and the immigration issue will turn away any Republican crossovers and a good chunk of the Indies. (And no, I don't have a solution.)
