Family Reunited With Pet 8 Months After Dog 'Euthanized' At Vet

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A Central Florida family is reunited with its pet eight months after the animal was left with a veterinarian to be euthanized over painful tumors growing in her ears.

Candy, a Maltese belonging to the Oaks family, had tumors in her ears that the family could not afford to treat.

The decision to end the dog's suffering prompted Angela Oaks to travel to the Mayfair Animal Hospital in Winter Park.

....

However, eight months after the dog was left to be euthanized, Oaks received a call from the veterinarian, Dr. Peggy Stubblefield.

"She told you they never euthanized Candy?" Local 6's Jessica Sanchez said.

1. So they saved her dog and she's complaining?
The vet said he tried to call the number that she left with them.

When I was working at a kennel over the past year, you wouldn't believe how many people left non-functioning phone numbers for contact/emergency on their pets.

2. Vet could have offered to treat for the cost of the shot to put dog down
but no....

yank her license. Family went through a very tough time with decision for nothing. Vet lied for self serving reasons AND took the $$

3. I ended up with a cat that had been left at the vet to be euthanized
Spode (the cat) was about a year old when he developed an abscess in his tail. His owners took him to their vet, who had to amputate Spode's tail. After they saw Spode without his tail, the owners decided that they wanted Spode put to sleep. There was nothing wrong with him medically, but they didn't like the way he looked. (He looked a little like a Manx after the amputation.)

The vet was horrified that they wanted her to kill a perfectly healthy, year old cat for cosmetic reasons and refused to put Spode to sleep. Instead, she offered to find a new home and the owners agreed. I have no idea whether the owners paid the euthanize fee or not - - I assume they didn't.

Spode died of old again about fifteen years ago. He was a great cat and had a long life.

4. Some people should never have pets
I had a family member suggest to me that I ought to have one of my cats put down because he needed a leg amputated due to cancer. I thought that was absurd, but a TAIL? I hope that those people don't breed. They might end up with an imperfect child.

Oh, and my semi-feral outdoor only cat lived five more years to the age of 18 with only three legs. He had enough attitude that none of the neighborhood cats, raccoons or possums ever gave him a bit of trouble!
