3. Do you remember when the debates had dignity, and weren't "gotcha" affairs?

4. The current denbates do nothing to advance the debate or educate Americans
about the issues.

11. has *any* of the 2008 coverage enlightened us?
Seems to me we've had a shitload of media coverage on the 2008 elections while learning surprisingly little about the candidates' positions. Then again, every minute spent speculating about 2008 is a minute the media doesn't have to spend covering the the current administration's foibles. Hmm...

6. I don't think they willingly gave them up
I think the candidates got scared and wanted pseudo-debates instead of real debates..

I'd like to see series of ONE topic debates..where EACH candidate gets exactly the same amount of time, and HAS to stay on topic, or they get their time taken away..

Health Care
Education
Election Security
Energy
Immigration
Social Security
Restoration of regulatory system
Restoration of the military
Media consolidation

etc

A moderator would only be needed to cut their microphones if they start blathering on with a canned speech..

We NEED to know what these people THINK..not a bunch of empty platitudes & sound bytes.. We have had NOTHING BUT that shit for 7 + years

I deliberately excluded "homeland" security, because ALL candidates want a secure country, and there is really NO way to protect ourselves from wackos who do crazy things;/

8. Last night, nobody could finish a thought without Blitzer "OK. OK. Alright. OK. Alright"
Maddening. And in the end you didn't get to know anybody. Can you imagine someone who doesn't know any of the candidates tuning in for the first time to "learn" about them?

9. AMEN!!!
Last night wasn't a debate, it was a circus! There were no winners, but a whole country of losers. What a farce.

13. And here you are talking about it 20 years later. :)
Seriously, how many of the CNN questions will be discussed two decades down the road? Two days down the road?

12. I do believe the LWV are more involved in the
general election for president than the party debates.
