Some people have posted that the Supreme Court is already lost, but that is not accurate

Remember Kennedy voted against the bush administration's view that the prisoners at Gitmo were not subject to the Geneva Convention

Also remember that Stevens is in his eighties, and several are in their seventies. This election WILL determine the future of our republic, and I am talking about major issues such as civil rights, privicy, church and state, etc.

alito, thomas, scalia, and most likely robers, believe that the power of the executive branch is unlimited. Our lives and future generations will be affected for a long time if republicans win.

As upset as I am about the behavior of the Democrats in Congress, I know what the stakes are

Push the candidate of your choice in the primaries, but no matter what happens, vote for the Democratic nominee, don't sit the election out.

1. This can't be said enough
Getting the rest of the courts is the final piece to their puzzle.

3. Absolutely correct. Judicial noms are the existential hum of the 2008 election.
I appreciate this post very much, still_one.

Recommended.

4. K & R and I hope people keep this kicked and send it to the top of the Greatest Page
Because, at least for the National Races and at the very least for the pResidency/Imperial Throne, this is the cold and unvarnished truth.

Let 9/11ani seize the crown, and we will see pretty damn near an unbroken road to the New Totalitarianism. 9/11ani, like Bushler and proabably all Bush Family emperors we have hereafter (Jeb and George P. are in the on-deck circle), will be hated by a majority of the people, perhaps a large majority...not that it will matter any more then than it does now, but let 9/11ani seize the crown, then what little hope we have vanishes to near zero and starts to resemble getting struck by lightning, winning the lottery, or Zombie Washington rising from the grave to set things right.

So, a hearty K & R and in spite of extreme difficulties with the current disgraceful Democratic Leadership, it doesn't change the simple truth of the OP.
