Even if Gore runs now, he's lost my vote.
If it's his plan to jump in at the last minute, he'll now do so without my support. He's dicked around FAR too long.

He could have literally saved the planet. But from where he seems to be standing now, he'll never have the power to make our government pay attention to him and change what needs to be changed.

The best of luck to him, but Dennis Kucinich now has my vote.

Sorry, Al. Ya coulda done SO MUCH from the Oval Office.

2. I see no reason to disparage him....
he didn't "dick around". He said a long time ago he didn't plan to run, and if people didn't take him at his word, that's their fault, not his.

11. I don't know what Gore was supposed to say
"Hey assholes, I'm not running!" Would THAT message be clear enough?

I wish he had, but he's not going to run. And that's HIS decision to make. This business of parsing every statement to find the results people want...it's just sort of pointless.

4. He never said he was going to run. He never said he was thinking about
running. As much as I want him to run, it is up to him. If his heart isn't in it, he shouldn't.

18. No matter how many times you type it, that's present tense.
It has no meaning as to what will happen in the future, next week, or next month. Al Gore has never spoken in future tense, therefore, I'm supporting Al Gore until he slams the door or time literally runs out.

10. I feel a bit like that, too.
"He could have literally saved the planet. But from where he seems to be standing now, he'll never have the power to make our government pay attention to him and change what needs to be changed."

Exactly. He could literally change the course of civilization for the better from the position of POTUS. I think that after the past 8 years, much of the world would get behind him, too. He has put himself, purposefully or not, in the position of being the right person at the right time. I really think we are fucked without him.

16. oh nonsense
if he had stayed in the Senate for the last 16 years, he'd be as hated here as anybody else.

He hasn't had to cast a vote since '93, and therefore people are able to project whatever they want upon him.

But he was a DLC centrist for all of his career. He was the Clinton administration's point-man for NAFTA.

Now he's a descending angel sent down from upon high to save us.

It's nonsense. He's a politician. If he'd had to vote in the Senate, he'd be treated as bad as Clinton is here.

20. Oh nonsense yourself. Al has grown a lot and he's not a politician
in the sense that most of them are.

Give him credit for what he's doing will you? He is doing work for the public good. That concept is lost on most "politicians".

22. Al Gore is a politician
and he hasn't grown any, let alone alot, since he left the White House. He's still a good guy doing good work, yes, just moving in a different direction.

I recognize the need for people to have a hero, but Al Gore is, if anything, slightly less progressive than Hillary Clinton (I know, it's hard to understand things you don't understand). Which makes the absurd hero-worship of Al and the equally ugly hatred of Hillary by rougly the same people here on DU, so utterly pathetic.

The Hillary-haters/Gore-worshippers show their infantile understanding of politics, and their tremendous lack of honesty and reason, every time they open their mouths on this board. I bet even Al would be ashamed of it if he were here.

I've been watching them for 20 years. They're both very progressive even though they're both DLC.

Childish political awareness of newbie-progressives notwithstanding.

19. You know that's real cool but
it sounds like you're getting pissed off for something that isn't even going to happen.

As The Anishinabe(Ojibwa) say, "Dagwaging".."It is what it is".

"September 15, 2007 - Saturday

Indian Summer **
In every book you read there is usually at least one "pearl". Sometimes there are many...this was the one I found in the pages of my most recently read paperback..A Stolen Season by Steve Hamilton.

Preface: The Ojibwa are a indian tribe found in and around the Upper Peninsula between Sioux St. Marie, Michigan and Ontario, Canada.

From the book: When you ask a Ojibwa what the word for Indian Summer is they will tell you it's "dagwaging". And when you ask them the word for Fall they will tell you it's the same "dagwaging". There is no difference. The sun may be shining. Or it may be cold and grey. It's still "dagwaging". You accept it for what it is and go on living your life. And being the person you are..... you live with the "dagwaging" you've been delt.

Afterthought: And while you're living with it, should you loose someone amazing along the way...try to do something everyday that will show you're the kind of person who deserves to have had someone like that in your life."

Funny..I google "dagwaging" and I got this and that's the book I got my dagwaging from..B-) It's like "you can't control the wind but you can set your sails".. Billy Joel Armstrong.
