Damn. Gas Prices are ridiculous! Did anyone see the CEO of Shell
on GMA this morning? Robin was interviewing him and you could see the frustration on her face. She tried asking how can they jack up prices now with the holidays coming and people already struggling and that bastard had the gall to say they were turning the profits back out into the public sector ...trying to help:wtf:

I'm so sick of the greedy bastards:argh:

1. pigs get fed, hogs get slaughtered..........
we as individuals can't change the price of oil, but we can change our habits and mindsets toward our use of it............when that happens, and it's coming, thanks to $3.25 gas, then we'll take back our country.

2. if we had any leadership, we'd all know what we could do to wean ourselves off our overusage.
Nobody has to reinvent the wheel, everything we need is out there, we just need a government that isn't controlled by big oil......that includes my Democratic Rep. too, I'm sorry to say.

16. Welcome to D/U and you are correct.
Way to many Politicians, regardless of affiliation, feed at the Buffet of Big Oil.

Edited on Wed Nov-14-07 09:48 AM by Donnachaidh
And she was lobbing softballs at him as we were throwing socks and anything soft at the television. I didn't see any frustration on her face -- this was a PR stunt to put a human face on Big Oil. They've been working *30 YEARS* on alternative fuels??? WHERE? And in all that time they produced ZERO results? Give me a freaking break -- the media and these companies think consumers are freaking idiots.

5. Russian Revenge
Edited on Wed Nov-14-07 09:56 AM by KharmaTrain
In interesting report on public radio was about Russia's hand in the high oil prices. Obviously, they love it and there was one minister on joking "they might have won the cold war, but we're clearing out their pockets now".

The crunch on retail this holiday season is gonna be brutal. Shrinking incomes teamed up with rising expenses and a collapsing dollar and we're gonna see this thing ripple across the economy to start the new year.

Oh, but I feel for the poor Oil Company president...he won't be making AS MUCH of a profit. Sucks to be him :puke:

6. I have cut my usage
...to roughly 1/3 to 1/2 of what I was using in '05 before the prices shot up and I am still broke. The effects of fuel prices have caused a rise in my other living expenses like the price of food and energy to heat my home etc. until it has literally bankrupted us :(

7. Everybody should at least TRY to do that.
My husband takes the bus to work and back and catches rides with coworkers to most out of office meetings. I am retired and limit my driving, altho it took a little thought and planning. I do like to see my granddaughters up in Boston, tho, and I won't stop visiting them (I tried the train; it is very expensive). My errands are run in a very compact area close by (within a mile or so). But you are right, it doesn't even cover the rise in my expenses such as heating or air conditioning.

9. I haven't had much of a choice
my job is almost 100 miles from my home and selling out and moving is not an option. I bought a motorcycle in Sept. 05 and have ridden it extensively back and forth and finally gave up this spring and bought an old used travel trailer and put it in an RV park close to work. So, I'm gone from home all week and home on the weekends.

I can literally pay the $325 a month RV lot rent with what I'm not spending on gas. The whole thing is just ridiculous

12. Too bad you can't work from home. I wish more employers would let their employees do that.
I think more and more people are going to try to do that, especially in places with long communtes by car and no real urban transit option. Luckily, we are near 2 bus lines that go right down to City Hall in New Haven where my husband works. The last 8 years that I worked I was only a few miles from my house. My supermarket sells gas and I get coupons and a discount with my supermarket card. I did allow myself one day trip with a friend to the NW corner of CT, an idyllic area where families that go back to the late 1600s still own property, along with New Yorkers like Mia Farrow, and where there is no mail service in some spots, people just go to the little local post office!

8. I just sent them this email
I was watching your CEO being interviewed on Good Morning America and when Robin asked him about justification for gas proices being jacked up so high, he assured her that Shell was turning the profits back out to the public sector, trying to help.

Well, here I am, the "public sector" that has been buying your overpriced gas. I'll be waiting by my mailbox for your check. Or would you prefer sending through paypal? Let me know.

thanks

10. I have cut my driving in half.
I carpool whenever possible.

Combine multiple errands into one trip to save gas.

Use the vent setting instead of A/C whenever possible (keep in mind, many cars run the A/C compressor when on "AUTO" or "HEAT" setting. Use the vent for economy and set the temp higher for warm air. Unless windows fog up and you need the compressor to run to dehumidify, you'll save gas.)

I try to drive economically, run errands during non-peak traffic times, accelerate gently, coast whenever possible, make sure tires are properly inflated and front wheels are properly aligned, etc.

There are a LOT of things we can all do that will reduce demand greatly. If we would all just commit to doing it, gas prices would drop quickly as supplies increased.

13. Someone has to pay for that high CEO's salary... Exxon Mobil CEO
made a lousy $22,440,807 in total 2006 compensation. At my current wage, I only have to work 701 years to make what he did in one year...!

15. May all those who voted for the oilman cowboy killer have a nice holiday.
George and Dick are truly loved by big oil. He promised $4 per gal and that's what they will get.

If your making $250,000 a year a $4 gallon ain't bad. How much will you pay for a gallon of beer or water or milk or blood?

Most of the complaints come from folks without super wealthy parents. George never filled his tank or paid for a tank of gas.
