So you think Dennis is crazy for thinking that life may exist elsewhere?
I submit that a much crazier notion is that there is a supreme being elsewhere but check this out!

2. I think it's inconceivable that there isn't...
Carl Sagan calculated it out mathematically on Cosmos. Chances are very good there are.

Now whether or not they're here is another matter entirely. I'd say the jury is still out on that one.

The only reference I heard him make was in the debate when he said he saw some flying object that was unidentified.

47. That was my first thought as well!
This is not even a debate about Dennis or UFO's, this is a personal injection of opinion by a poster. It's an interesting topic and I am 100% sure there is other life out there somewhere, though I am somewhat doubtful that they have figured out how to do trans-light speed travel yet.

51. It is another "Al Gore said he created the Internet", imho
I haven't seen Dennis say that what he saw was extraterrestrial. Perhaps he has, but I haven't seen it and would like to see a link before we start putting ourselves in a position of defending him for something he didn't say.

Pundits like to make the little spooky noises and roll their eyes when they talk about Dennis and UFOs, but we do not have to buy into their assertion. I heard him say he saw something that was unidentified. If he thought it was a spaceship, then it wouldn't have been unidentified, would it?

It is a silly discussion in the context of this race. Compared to Kucinich, Russert (a.k.a Mr Potato-Head) has the moral IQ of a turnip.

Someone should ask Russert ... how many times has Dennis Kucinich taken the unpopular stand? And how many times has the passage of time and course of events proven him right?

18. Kucincih did not say that.
Ms. McLane did claim in her recent book that he said that he saw a UFO & received a communication from the occupants of that craft. Kucinich was not asked about that part. His answer to that would be real interesting.

20. No
the issue is not whether anyone believes life exists elsewhere. What a strawman that is!

The issue is whether he believes he saw a craft of alien origin, and whether that craft "gave him directions".

42. You need to read "Demon-Haunted World" by Carl Sagan.
Yes, he believed that there is almost certainly intelligent life elsewhere in the universe.

But he was not aware of *any* credible evidence of its existence, let alone any credible evidence that Earth has been visited by extraterrestrial life. None of the alleged evidence stands up to scrutiny.

38. The issue at hand is not whether
extra-terrestrial life exists.

It's whether or not Kucinich believes he saw an alien ship and received directions from it.

They're really very different issues.

I don't have an opinion about that. But I do believe that human beings aren't the center of the universe, and I very much look forward to the day when our government no longer behaves as though the US is the center of the universe.

24. There are billions of galaxies with billions of stars, some of which have planets.
It would not be surprising if even just one star in each galaxy had a planet with intelligent life.

In fact, it would be pretty weird if only our tiny little planet had intelligent life.

However, even the closest star is four light years away, and to reach it in those four years, we'd need a spaceship that traveled at 669 million miles per hour. If we had a spaceship capable of traveling at 1 million miles per hour, which we don't, it would take over 2,000 years for a one-way trip. I don't know how fast present-day space vehicles travel, but it might take longer than all of human history so far to reach that star, only to find no planets or no inhabited planets.

No wonder no one has come visiting. And perhaps it's just as well.

26. I don't think it's remotely crazy to think that life exists outside our solar system
In fact, I think it probably does.

I think it is somewhat crazy, or at least improbable, to believe that 'UFO's' represent extra-terrestrials visiting Earth.

But it's true that most politicians have somewhat crazy beliefs. While I don't believe in a Supreme Being myself, I don't think it's necessarily crazy to do so. BUT I think it is extremely and dangerously crazy to think that a Supreme Being is supporting you in bombing other countries.

27. Carl Sagan didn't
believe Earth had ever been visited by ETs. He rejected the idea of UFOs as extraterrestrial space craft. That's not to say he didn't consider it possible that life exists somewhere other than Earth.

I don't believe ETs have visited Earth either, but even if Dennis Kucinich does (I don't know that he does), I wouldn't hold it against him. There are weirder things than believing in flying saucers, in my opinion.

39. Life may or may not exist elsewhere
Nobody knows.

But that's not the question raised by the Kucinich/UFO story.

It's not whether life exists elsewhere. It's whether Kucinich believes he encountered such life, and that it gave him directions.

33. The disbelief comes not from thinking there's no life out there, but that it can violate physics
Or at least what we know of physics - which says nothing can travel faster than the speed of light.

In a universe so vast, and so difficult to travel, it just seems unlikely they'd end up here.
