Rightwingers Strive to Put 'English-First' Wedge Issue on Ballot
This is happening here in Nashville, Tennessee. Rightwingers are circulating petitions in an effort to put an English-First (they tried English-Only but it was judged unconstitutional) measure on the ballot and use the fear of immigrants as a wedge issue.

I imagine there are similar efforts in other towns/states. If you know of any, I'd appreciate hearing about them.

3. Scary
That's really scary supernova. They'd probably start forming lynch mobs if they saw that. Though Lou Dobbs may well get them worked up enough to do that before he's through.

4. Why is it scary?

The Dec of Independence was deemed so important at the time that not even language was an issue. They wanted every one, even the predominantly German-speaking Pennsylvania folks at the time, to understand.

I still think that's the way we ought to look at the issue.

And up until WWI, in many places in this country, you could go all the way through primary and secondary school in German language immersion programs.

6. Lynch mobs? Oh, I doubt it.
I don't think the "English only" people have a problem with German, for some reason.

2. Judging by the posts I see on RW websites ...
... very few right-wingers can actually communicate in the English language. So wouldn't this be a self-defeating bill?

Besides, if 'English First' was made law, we'd definitely have to impeach Bush - being as he doesn't meet that threshold himself.

Just sayin' ...

12. Perhaps and one might observe some Democrats are to the left of the Democratic Party.
My, we Democrats are a contentious, disorganized bunch. :hi:

13. They should start with Bush
He may not leave office with a legacy, but at
least he'd leave it with coherency.
