Bush Vetoes Funding for Autism Programs
I received this from the Autism Society of America today:

This morning, President Bush vetoed the FY 2008 Labor, Health and Human Services and Education Appropriations bill. This bipartisan bill had strong support in both the House and the Senate, but the President objected to the overall funding levels of the bill, which includes modest increases for vital programs - most of which have experienced significant cuts, lost purchasing power or both over the past three years.

This legislation includes significant increases for autism programs at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Health Resources and Services Administration and the National Institutes of Health. These increases represent full funding of the Combating Autism Act, and are critical in improving our ability to diagnose, intervene and develop new therapies for autism. We need this crucial investment!

The House could move to override the President’s veto as early as this week. Contact your Member of Congress and urge them to vote YES on the veto override.

5. I have yet to see an ounce of compassion exhibited by the self-proclaimed "compassionate
conservative" occupying the White House. He obviously has no soul, otherwise he could never sleep at night regardless of how many drugs he ingested.

7. I couldn't agree more and those that continue to stand behind him without
calling him on his continued abuses are just as quilty....

I don't find it strange that the repub candidates honestly do not wish for him to help them in their desire to replace him but I do find it telling that they won't come right out and state they would do things different.

Guilty by omission and as such they should be called on their lack and ability to prove they are any different than that which illegally holds the office they want so desperately and yet offer no change what so ever except for a few saying the war should end, there is so much more that his administration has done to harm this country and their supporters should question them on all if it, because they have solidly stood behind his each and every decision regardless of who right any of them turned out to be.

I wonder how any of them can sleep at night or look the average citizen in the eye and tell them that they honestly care about the damage that has been reaped upon this nations people as well as others.

8. Why the hell would he veto the bill?
1 out of 150 children are now being diagnosed with autism. We need funding to help diagnose and develop therapies. I can't believe this administration's priorities!

10. He would have vetoed polio funding in the 1950's
The man is scum.

If this had been a bill to recruit autistics for the armed forces, he would have approved ten times that amount.

I say again, the man is scum.

11. I wouldn't call him "scum"
I'm sure scum actually serves an ecological purpose, and therefore has worth.

14. This bill included funding for a LOT of medical research, not just autism..
Anybody remember the Shrub claiming at a photo op at NIH how much funding he has given to cancer research, when in actuality cancer research funding has been slashed. Liar liar..

15. That sniveling slime Dick Cheney, who is so evil and impotent that he has
to shoot fish in a barrel to make himself feel like a man, gets the best health care in the world.

The innocent children of this country do not. What's so moral about that? What's so compassionate about that? What is even remotely sensible about that?

This infuriates me.

Not surprising really, infuriating but not surprising at all.
