Bush vetoes Dems' health and education bill

President Bush vetoed a Democratic-backed health and education bill Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Bush on Tuesday signed a big increase in the Pentagon's non-war budget, and vetoed a spending measure for health and education programs prized by congressional Democrats.

The president's action was announced on Air Force One as Bush flew to Indiana for a speech expected to criticize the Democratic-led Congress on its budget priorities.

More than any other spending bill, the $606 billion education and health measure defines the differences between Bush and majority Democrats. The House fell three votes short of winning a veto-proof margin as it sent the measure to Bush.

5. stupid democrats?, this is what exactly the repigs strategy is
to keep on criticizing the Dems, and they (repigs) will get in again.

read this interview with Buzzflash interviewing John Dean

http://www.buzzflash.com/articles/interviews/084

just a snip:

BuzzFlash: The Republicans are probably very pleased with the recent polls showing Congressional approval at 18%.

John Dean: They are delighted because their strategy is working. This is how they won control of the House after Democrats had controlled it for forty years. When the Republicans got control, they would damn near destroy it and eliminate its fundamental functions. So, they are succeeding again. And they will go to the voters in 2008 and say: "Listen, Democrats can't run this place." But they won't be confessing that their own actions are the ones resulting in the inability of the Democrats to run the Congress.
