Word from Al Gore's Office: Stop Ballot initiatives
From a diary at kos:

by Abraham Running For Congress When I Turn 25
Mon Nov 12, 2007 at 09:25:38 PM PST
It is painful for me to write these words, I just got this letter from Karen Wunderman Chief of Staff at AlGore.org

Dear AFG Steering Committee Members:

We have received a communication from a member of Al Gore’s staff discouraging our efforts to put Al Gore’s name on any primary ballots. This includes California, New York, Massachusetts, and the write-in effort in New Hampshire, as well as any other states that are working to get him on the ballot. Accordingly, effective immediately, we are recommending that all groups cease their signature collection and related fund-raising activities.

So even if you felt that his joining a venture capital firm, still left the door open, this makes clear what has actuallly been clear for quite a while: Gore isn't running.

2. This is all a clever ruse by Gore to trick his competition...
He hasn't yet made a Shermanesque statement!

He could still jump in before New Hampshire!

He could still jump in before the convention!

;)

6. I don't see how you can say "if"
I totally doubt the diarist simply made up the email.

7. Hadn't read the link, it's definitely more than confirmed.
We'll see what Gore has to say about it or if he's just going to ignore the supporters and not make a statement.

3. No, see, this is all part of his secret plan!
It's genius, I tell you! A brilliant distraction while he prepares his real campaign.

8. Went to algore.org and didn't see anything. Perhaps Abraham is a HRC staffer
mad that Al is topping many polls.

Seems like a valid question in light of recent revelations about the Hillary campaign.

yesterday. I would think it would be big news.

Gore just joined a venture capital firm for pete's sake. He's not running. I suggest you follow the link and read the rest of the diary.

...The fat lady sang. We'll have to believe Gore when he tells us he's not running. ...All I could say is that he has to know the fix is in, otherwise he would run because he would win.

16. looks like i'll be sitting this election out.
i cannot in good conscience cast a vote for ANY of the viable candidates who at this point might actually end up on the Democratic Party ticket.

there are definitely interesting times ahead...

we'll see what happens after 12/21/12. maybe those mayans were on to something.

17. I wonder why he strung people along for so long.
The "Draft Gore" movement has been around for quite some time. He could have told them to stfu at any point over the past several months. He didn't. He purposefully avoided a Sherman statement (about the 2008 election) as opposed to his statements at the same point in time during the 2004 cycle. He, and his staff, consciously knew that the phrasing of his statements would "keep hope alive" for the Draft-Gore crowd.

Was he genuinely considering getting into the race? If not, why didn't he issue an '08 Sherman statement earlier? If he really "had no plans to be a candidate", why keep toying with his supporters?

My theory: he thinks his new mission is literally to Save the World, and one of the best ways to keep attention on the climate crisis issue was precisely to keep tantalizing everyone about a presidential bid. I think he only issued this latest statement because primary ballot deadlines are approaching or passing, so it would be silly to "keep the door open" when the door is closing as a practical matter.

When/if he issues a Sherman statement, people will stop paying attention to him (and by extension the climate crisis)

Personally, i think he's transcended politics, and he knows the game is rigged anyway.

20. Simply put, until I hear the words "I will NOT run for president in 2008"...
coming out of the mouth of the man himself, I will still hold a glimmer of hope.

As a side note: I find it curious that this statement is coming from someone other than Gore directly. As it's been said a thousand times on DU, if Al wanted such efforts to stop, he would come out and say something to the effect of the above statement.
