Wife Faces Deportation After Husband Killed In Iraq

Wife Faces Deportation After Husband Killed In Iraq

2 hours, 15 minutes ago

A local mother, and Venezuelan citizen, is at risk of being deported after her husband died in Iraq last year.

Dahianna Heard's life changed dramatically when her husband Jeff was killed in March of 2006, three months before he and Dahianna's two-year wedding anniversary, which would have made Dahianna a legal resident.

Now, however, immigration officials said Dahianna?s citizenship request died with her husband.

The Heards' son Bryan was born in the U.S. just before Jeff went back to Iraq.

Dahianna is now at risk of being deported to Venezuela. If deported, she would bring Bryan, a U.S. citizen, with her.

4. You know, I've been wondering about this.
During my social worker days ('93 to 2000)(I retired when we were blessed with Beloved Daughter), I NEVER saw a parent deported if their child was born here (U.S. citizen). In fact, we were often able to secure a permanent visa for a grandparent, if that grandparent were required for emergency care.

Nowadays, they deport the parent of a U.S. citizen - that's UNCONSCIONABLE!!! We are better than torture, rendition, and separating families. Look how far THESE BASTARDS have taken America down!

9. New fucking rule.
If you have or had a family member fighting in Iraq, they're not allowed to DEPORT YOU.

14. Not that it matters in the absurdity of the situation...
But husband was a contract worker in Iraq, not a soldier. The humanitarian issue this brings to light is much larger than the patriotic one.

Revised rule should be...death of a "sponsor" spouse should not be seen as a terminating event in regards to the two year residency waiting period.

Otherwise all legitimately formed families with one spouse being citizen one being alien are walking a two year tightrope of chance in which everything built and dreamt of during this time could be thrown to the wind with an untimely death; property, community, family, children, future....
