Clinton Says ‘Boys’ Are Tough on His Wife
By Katharine Q. Seelye
With all the sniping that ensued over Senator Hillary Clinton’s suggestion that her male rivals for the Democratic nomination were “piling on” her during the Oct. 30 debate, you’d think her campaign would’ve retired that theme.
But her strategist-in-chief, Bill Clinton, was at it again today.
“It’s a great time to be a Democrat,” Mr. Clinton told more than 800 students and supporters at Trident Technical College in South Carolina, according to The Associated Press. “Even though those boys have been getting tough on her lately, she can handle it.”
Which begs the question: Does the Clinton campaign think it’s helpful for the former president to be stepping out constantly in his wife’s defense? Last week, several Democrats criticized Mr. Clinton for suggesting Mrs. Clinton faced a Republican-style “Swift boat” attack during the debate.
If Mrs. Clinton becomes commander-in-chief, will Mr. Clinton keep popping up to admonish her opponents, whether they be in Congress or overseas?
