Anyone else catch Gore on NPR this evening??
Overall a great interview. Check out the audio here- http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=16227362

However, the end is curious, IMO. He is asked the standard question about running for office again and dodges as he has in the past. Then he is asked why he doesn't just outright shut down all speculation, like he did in 2004. And he again doesn't do so. He said he's not running, blah, blah, blah, but he seemed to in a very lawyer-like way not close the door completely.

I really wonder what he's up to. He had the opportunity to shut down all of the speculation for 2008 and he essentially refused to do it.

1. I caught that, too. NO IDEA what that's about. I assumed that with him
joining up with that VC firm that he was pretty much NOT going to do anything else for a while.

2. he is leaving the option to join later in the game
thus not wearing out his small donor base with the long march.

3. I wish we had a full transcript, no speakers on this puter,
it's operated by hamsters running on a wheel. But I'll take a venture here.

I believe Al Gore is keeping his options open in case the American People have a great awakening and demand him to be restored to the office for which he was rightfully elected and denied. In the meantime, the best he can do for the causes he is so passionate about, such as saving life as we know it, is in the private sector. He can't run the risk of campaigning in the traditional form as this has become so dysfunctional, the stakes are too great with the growing catastrophe of global warming on the horizon to trust the corporate media in this regard. They slandered him relentlessly the last time, while they camouflaged Bush's obvious short comings. Once burned, twice shy or something like that. I believe Al Gore is trying to get the message out directly to the American People with out media distortion and should they get it, the people will insure he is reelected and sent to the Oval Office, where he belongs.

Thanks for the thread, CTD.

4. Watch the icon in the upper right of that NPR page - "transcript pending"
Hopefully it'll be free when it's posted.

9. I agree...
...he purposefully avoided the "Sherman Statement" but made it clear (to me anyway) that he had no desire to enter the fray, and ESPECIALLY in 2008...he seems to be focused on other things now...

10. I'm wondering if he's "playing us".
By not making the "Sherman Statement", it keeps us speculating. And with that speculation, he gets more attention.

While I support him and his message getting attention, I don't like feeling played.

11. He said he didn't need to make a
Sherman Statement. He has all but missed the big 4 filing dates so for 2008, it's not going to happen.

6. I wish he were running
but I really don't think he's going to throw his hat in the ring at this point.

I'm beginning to think the 'air of mystery' is a strategy to help his greater cause, keeping him in the public eye. If so, he's very smart to use the momentum of public interest to get his environmental message out.

Either way, he's a great speaker, with an important message. On both environmental AND political issues.

7. Maybe
he will be asked to be the v.p. again (for Edwards?), or can he be v.p. again?
