3. No shit, interesting.
I've never heard of a CFR link with Soros before.

Guess I'll have to research this - I hate it when little things like this make me sit back and blink.

4. Things we have learned since Orwell

Book Description
Propoganda. Manipulation. Spin. Control. It has ever been thus--or has it? On the eve of the 60th anniversary of George Orwell's classic essay on propaganda (Politics and the English Language), writers have been invited to explore what Orwell didn't--or couldn't--know. Their responses, framed in pithy, focused essays, range far and wide: from the effect of television and computing, to the vast expansion of knowledge about how our brains respond to symbolic messages, to the merger of journalism and entertainment, to lessons learned during and after a half-century of totalitarianism. Together, they paint a portrait of a political culture in which propaganda and mind control are alive and well (albeit in forms and places that would have surprised Orwell). The pieces in this anthology sound alarm bells about the manipulation and misinformation in today's politics, and offer guideposts for a journalism attuned to Orwellian tendencies in the 21st century.

Contributors include: George Soros, Francine Prose, Drew Westen, George Lakoff, Victor Navasky, Nick Lemann, Orville Schell, Samantha Power, Mark Danner, Farnaz Fassihi, Francis Fitzgerald, Michael Massing, Aryeh Neier, David Rieff, Geoff Cowan, Patricia Williams

contributions, too!

George Soros is billo's main bogey man ..so he'll probably start screeching about Soros' book on his propoganda show.

7. optimist? the 'jackboots grinding down a human face'
the picture of the future?
Orwell felt helpless rage not at the political thuggees like reagan bush and so on, or the capitalist pigs like murdock and bill gates etc, or even the jackbooted beauties like rumsvelt or scalia/thompson/roberts etc, but at the common run of people who were like the grass, swaying this way and that with every wind, and finally subject to a wind of their own indifference. It's this easily explained, fairly understood and quickly forgiven inclination of we, the people, to stand by and allow monstrous crimes of waste and stupidity to win out despite thousands of years of seeing what happens when we do stand by twiddling our thumbs and letting known liars dominate every conversation, it's this that ultimately has to to stop, or we are going to suffer when there's nothing left to be learned from it- just suffering for its own, useless sake.
