3. Is it me, or does he sound like he's about to choke up?
Maybe he's just losing his voice.

10. When you add an "apostrophe s" to the word "speech"
you make it possessive, as in "this is my speech's script." I think you just want a plural here (speechs), as in more than one speech. No apostrophe necessary unless Edwards' speech tonight actually owns something. In any case, it is good to hear that he's doing well. Maybe Edwards will own the Iowa caucuses.

9. Yes, he was very passionate.
I've heard it before, but this seemed particularly emotional tonight. He really went all out and gave a very moving speech.

15. This Speech was On Fire!
This was an incredible, and for me very unexpected speech by Edwards--I heard something thrilling and momentous that I had not really caught before; maybe it was expressed better here, or linked up with a larger context that I had not heard before, and that was really great. Edwards has been really great and clear on this issue lately; there was another really great, but short, clip from another campaign stop on C-SPAN a few days ago, that had similar warning-sound to it.

It was Edwards's usual references to the threat of corporate lobbyists and huge amounts of money contributed to Parties and candidates, and how it all corrupts the process and influences legislation--how everything is taken away from the American people and given to corporations and what they want--but this time, the theme was linked up to a great threat for the continued existence of our whole Nation, how this is a very threatened moment in time, that we are at a crossroads as momentous and fraught with peril as any other during our history, that a huge battle must now be fought against these very powerful, anti-democratic and entrenched interests, and that Edwards as a lawyer has had a long and successful history facing and beating these very well-financed and well-organized forces, on behalf of those who have no resources to fight them alone. There was a very strong sense of threat--very specific, concerning the corporate takeover of our political and legal systems--and a strong sense of "the great historical moment," and how we are at a dangerous and threatening crossroads. It was a brilliant, compelling speech--I think Edwards has really found and located the issue here. Also, Harkin, the great progressive fighter, gave a great speech here later last night.
