2. They've got more important things to do
...than stand up for what's right. Lawmaking takes time away from their hard work campaigning.

5. One or two... I could understand it
but that's half the field for one party.

Unacceptable in my view, but that way they can avoid the questions... after all this was a controversial (as it should be) vote

9. 39 Democrats + Bernie Sanders voted No.
That's more than half the Democrats.

14. I am talking of the ones who missed it
Look at the list once again

Two of the top tier candidates

Two of the mid tier candidates and of course McCain

They are running for President but miss this kind of a vote?

3. I think it's mostly because they were away to campaign.
Dodd and Obama had nothing to lose by voting against Mukasey. I don't think they wanted to avoid the vote.

13. Well, any one of them who wanted MY vote should have voted on this
But that's all right, I decided long ago I'll be voting for Kucinich. Partly because of the serial lack of interest these others show in the fundamentals.

28. From another thread
Apparently Reid scheduled the vote for tonight at the request of the REPUBS. The 4 senators didn't have time to get back.

Still inexcusable. The Dems are their own worst enemy. I'll wait to hear more on this....

11. In all fairness
Edited on Fri Nov-09-07 12:42 AM by Truth2Tell
I'd bet they knew it wouldn't affect the outcome, and if it looked like it'd be close they would've shown up.

This was a done deal when Dianne Lieberstein and Chuck "torture away" Schumer defected in Committee.

Edit to add: But of course a real leader would've shown up and led the filibuster.

26. Fucking shameful
I understand Clinton and McCain avoiding this vote -- their next principled stand will be their first -- but Dodd? Biden? Obama? That's extremely disappointing.

possible to get on Hillary's ticket.

But I guess she couldn't care less. The war and the Bush Administration has been good for her husband's interests. Yeah, I went with the low shot, but the government contracts and the money doesn't lie.
