250 MPG!..."Extreme Hybrid" concept car
AFS Trinity’s Extreme Hybrid™ drive train will enable practical and cost-effective plug-in hybrid vehicles that can achieve 250 MPG in a five-passenger sedan and 150 MPG in an SUV. The Extreme Hybrid™ drive train consists of an advanced, two-part energy storage system, a power converter and control software.

Our studies show that an Extreme Hybrid™ five-passenger sedan would be four times more fuel-efficient than today’s best hybrid cars and ten times more fuel efficient than today’s standard gasoline engine cars.

I Want One!!

7. Does it have a working heater for -30° and A/C for +100°?
On a 3 hour drive in below zero temps, you need a good working heater, both to stay comfortable and to keep the windows clear.
Without air conditioning you open the windows and destroy the streamlining which hurts mileage.

9. don't know about the heater...
...but Prius proved that an electric AC system works great!

As a side note, Mythbusters did a show on the open window mileage thing. I seem to recall that they couldn't find a measurable difference in MPG with windows up or down. Sure surprised me.

18. Mythbusters

They did laps at speed at a racetrack. The methodology seemed sound.

Too bad it appears as if it is still in the "Extreme Concept" phase. :(

I convinced my wife to do a cheap used vehicle for our 2nd car after I got rid of the SUV we no longer have a use for. I'm hoping that in 3 years there will be a variety of options for an affordable plug-in commuter car.

15. I am skeptical.
Where does the energy come from? Granted, a completely electric car technically has infinity miles per gallon (seeing as how they don't use gas, a non-existant gallon lasts a long time), but the energy has to come from somewhere. If it's from the grid, it may be more efficient, but thousands or millions of cars on a grid will still tax our energy supplies.

Is it efficient, or does it just use more electricity. I'll have to read more details, I guess. It would be cool if it were more efficient.

16. Plug-in cars seem like a PITA
Not only do you get to fill them up with gas, the power company gets to take their own cut as well. Plus I'm not very interested in messing around with electricity in rain or snow.

They say this vehicle will go 40 miles in electric-only mode. How much energy is that going to consume? MPG is not everything.

17. You have a very misinformed opinion on electric vehicles
Edited on Fri Nov-09-07 06:54 PM by wuushew
They tell you in the link.

12.5 kilowatt hours of electric capacity x 10 cents a kilowatt hour = $1.25 to go 40 miles.

Since gas is at least $3.00 nation wide you would need to be driving a car that got 95+ mpg to beat the fuel cost.

Also electric motors have been used for over a century including maritime applications, why would you think that the traction motor design would not be sealed?

Do not a fuel efficient car make.

There's nothing there but a sales pitch for some batteries and some well beyond dubious math.
