Not to spoil the fun, but CONGRESS JUST GAVE BUSH HIS FIRST VETO OVER-RIDE

Maybe the experience will grow on them.

Congress hands Bush first veto override
By Charles Babington
Associated Press Writer / November 8, 2007

WASHINGTON --President Bush suffered the first veto override of his seven-year-old presidency Thursday as the Senate enacted a $23 billion water resources bill despite his protest that it was filled with unnecessary projects.

The vote was 79-14 to pass the bill. Enactment was a foregone conclusion, but it still marked a milestone for a president who spent his first six years with a much friendlier Congress controlled by his Republican Party. Now he confronts a more hostile, Democratic-controlled legislature, and Thursday's vote showed that even many Republicans will defy him on spending matters dear to their political careers.

The bill funds hundreds of Army Corps of Engineers projects, such as dams, sewage plants and beach restoration, that are important to local communities and their representatives. It also includes money for the hurricane-hit Gulf Coast and for Florida Everglades restoration efforts.

The House voted 361-54 to override the veto Tuesday. Both votes easily exceeded the two-thirds majority needed in each chamber to negate a presidential veto. The last such veto override happened when Congress dealt President Clinton the second of his two overrides in November 1998.

4. Who's fun would you be spoiling? And why? Because they
did their jobs? Because water (or the lack of) will certainly make some people rather antsy. Future wars will be fought over water.

But I suppose they should be congratulated. For once they earned their paychecks.

8. Add to that...
The story over at Kos, about how people in Congress are getting dead serious about impeaching Cheney, and something tells me that things are about to get real interesting. Sounds like some people have decided to cowboy up.

28. Yeah, they can pork their way through anything
this is a glorious display of both parties joining together to use our tax dollars for their own pet projects. This is mostly pork with a little bit of stuff we actually need like levees and wetlands.

I'm with Feingold and McCaskill on this one. All the presidential candidates sat this one out.

37. This was a big fat staged non-event.
Bush gets to look all fiscally responsible despite the fact that he has bankrupted the republic with his disastrous conquest of Iraq and completely corrupt and irresponsible tax cuts for the vastly wealthy.

Congressional Republicans, threatened with extinction due to general and now deep seated hatred of the executive cabal among the peasantry, get to distance themselves from the regime.

Congressional Democrats, having infuriated almost the entire rank and file Democratic base with their utterly, contemptuously, corrupt behavior, get to get folks like you to pipe up with an 'atta-boy' over a totally safe issue.

Tons of pork flows into congressional districts across the land! Huzzah!

Nobody is against clean water.

39. Future Headline: Bush uses signing statement to override veto override.
I've been saying it for months,... even if a bill was passed by a veto proof majority, der chimpenfurher will just render it moot via signing statement.

Let's watch and see... can he issue a signing statement on this?
