When do the Chinese product posionings become a National Security Issue?
Lead contamination on the order of hundreds of millions? Thomas the Tank Engine, Polly Pocket. teddy bears, lipstick and uhh, everything probably.

Kids' toy beads made out of date rape drugs? Is this an accident or willful neglect and fuck those stupid Americans?

Where is our consumer protection? Where is our national defense while we spend 1.5 billion to protect diplomats in a country that doesn't want them there?

Meanwhile CEO's at these very same countries earn hundreds of millions as they look the other way. They should be in jail.

1. And don't forget the food products:
Seafood, apple juice, garlic, so many comestibles come from China. And the origin of these products is not necessarily labelled "Made in China."

We are on our second decade of avoiding products imported from China. A 100% boycott is nearly impossible, but we do our best. There are many things we just do without.

Flame away that we shouldn't have to read the labels on everything we buy. That would be ideal. But why should we be excused from being conscious consumers any more than we can be excused from being conscious of our country, its policies, and wars.

6. Except for certain items we are not likely to know where those
food imports come from.

On May 13, 2002, President Bush signed into law the Farm Security and Rural Investment Act of 2002, more commonly known as the 2002 Farm Bill. One of its many initiatives requires country of origin labeling for beef, lamb, pork, fish, perishable agricultural commodities and peanuts. On January 27, 2004, President Bush signed Public Law 108-199 which delays the implementation of mandatory COOL for all covered commodities except wild and farm-raised fish and shellfish until September 30, 2006. On November 10, 2005, President Bush signed Public Law 109-97, which delays the implementation for all covered commodities except wild and farm-raised and shellfish until September 30, 2008. As described in the legislation, program implementation is the responsibility of USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service.

4. Great Question. A great question for Olberman or Dobbs. I think its just more
proof that Bush's foreign terrorist threat is a crock of shit. Bush & his base of billionaire neo-corporatists are terrorists on U.S. soil.
I call my country America, Bush & his base call it Homeland.

5. You would think
that the greedy corporatists (many of them AMERICAN CEOs) would figure that dead people can't buy more stuff and perhaps it is in the long-term best interest to stop poisoning us.

I mean, we in the U.S. are THE consumers.

7. While unlikely, it's possible that the poisoning was done on
purpose. Think about the subtlety. Brain damage to a generation of Americans.

9. This whole toy bead thing is pissing me off
It starts because some parent who didn't bother to read the fucking box gave a toy for 5 year olds to a 20 month old baby who proceeded to eat 50 of the goddamn things and then surprise! Got Sick! Gee who'd have thought.... Now it's the top story on every newscast in America... At least I heard about the veto override from Will Pitt...

17. Sure.
That's why we have the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission.

There's no reason to go all George Bush and start screaming WMDs over a product recall.

20. Us and them
I have been saying for a long time that all these issues will only be real when those in the top 1% are affected by them. Medical care is not an issue for them because they have the economic resources to purchase care without the middleman of the insurance company. Food for them is only the best they don't shop at the local grocery store like the rest of us. Toys also the same they have a one of a kind made for their children no question of it's safety, authenticity. They don't shop at the mall so mo problem for them there.

Our life issues are irrevalent to them.
