Yesterday I laughed. Today I'm not.
I gleefully posted this yesterday: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=2226765&mesg_id=2226765

Today ...... not so much.

Once past the hilarity, the absurdity, the cognitive dissonance, the improbability of that endorsement, one is made to contemplate.

One realizes that a crazy man was endorsed by a bigot. One realizes that the penultimate panderer was endorsed by a homophobic misogynist.

One realizes that to have earned that endorsement (assuming there was actual thought behind it) the candidate must have promised to overturn Roe, to throw every gay person under the bus, and to wage endless war against the non-religion that is Islam. All to pander to the aged bigot that is 'Reverend' Robertson.

Keep one phrase in mind: "Strict Constructionist Judges".

1. Indeed, like "Burn the witch", constructionist judges
which will include: Gay, Black, Muslim, "illegals", Democrat, tree huggers, dog lovers etc. etc. etc. There's no limit with an angry Old Testament God at the helm.

2. And the BushCo has morphed undocumented workers into terrorists.
It's the issue that the GOP believes with GOTV and, they may be right.

3. Excellent point.

I find the hair on my neck rising about this, remembering that the same coalition has worked before--2000 and 2004. What's the saying, "never underestimate...."

5. I agree Johnny.
I learned my lesson in 2000, as I was one of the people saying that this country would never put Bush in the White House. I will never say "never" again.

4. The utter hypocrisy of Robertson staggers the imagination.
After he has condemned various liberal and Democratic candidates to hell for being pro-choice to now endorse a pro-choice,cross dressing candidate is unbelieveable. I must believe there has been a gentleman's agreement among the two concerning Rudi's future stands on these issues. Rudi will run as the moderate on social issues while the mood of the nation is running that way, but when he takes office (hopefully that will never happen), he will reveal he has had a miraculous moral conversion and now sees eye to eye with Robertson.

7. Giuliani is genuinely scary . . .
But this endorsement only highlights his hypocrisy, and is likely to 1) whittle away support on the far-far right among those who are appalled that their religious icon is in bed with the idolater, and 2) whittle away support on the near-right among those who are appalled that their moderate "Mayor of 9/11" would have anything to do with the jebus-loving, no-opposable-thumb set.

This highlights the 'Lican dilemma: their sins are coming back to haunt them and there's really no good place to hide.

8. In Robertson's mind, it's only about getting a Repig in the WH
He'll sell his principles just for this. Honestly, I think this may be a smart move in the fact that if Ghouliani wins the nomination, some of these so called "values voters" will vote along the line that Pat has given them. Dobson seems to one standing in the way, and politically, if he endorses a third party candidate of high "moral values" to run, then the Republicans are toast.

Yes, Pat's endorsement is full of hypocrisy, but politically, it may be the right move (for them).
