Sen. Hagel says U.S. draft may be unavoidable
http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_page=2798&u_sid=10177959

"We have more than 300 million people in this country, but less than 1 percent of our population has to bear all of the burden, to make all of the sacrifices, to do all the fighting and all the dying for the rest of us," he said.

"There are people serving in Iraq for the third time, in Afghanistan for the third time. They're ruining their families, suffering post-traumatic stress disorder and significant injuries. They're not going to bear that burden any longer," he said.

......how about not letting a bunch of lying bastards start the wars in the first place?

4. What? Not enough cannon-fodder willing to make the "ultimate sacrifice"?
What if they gave a war and nobody came?

What if they gave a war and The People refused to be taxed to raise an Army??

Either we're a government OF, BY, and FOR ... or we're not. The buck stops here, not there.

16. Now, THAT would be a real revolution.
Alas, we haven't been a government of, by, or for "the people" since the first politician was bought and paid for by the real bosses.

17. Hagel's been trying as much as any Democrat to end the war, or
at least legislate troop rest (Webb/Hagel). He's not calling for a draft--he's saying that if we continue to fight war on 2 fronts indefinitely, it may eventually come down to that. He doesn't want it at all--he's warning us.

14. Bush will never let that happen.
And we all know that what Bush wants the Dems deliver it to him on a silver platter. I have no more faith in them. They can not even deny him one single dollar for this occupation in Iraq. They will never get a draft even though it would end the occupation immediately.

15. Hey Hagel how about we just quit with the odious illegal occupations?
Don't you think that might be better than sending a confused 19 year old kid against his will to his death guarding some pipeline?

18. Hagel is not a war monger
Quoted from the article linked in the OP

"War is nothing noble or good; it's all about brutality and suffering, and that should frighten you and intimidate you into doing what's right, to prevent going to war."
