Passengers revolt after being told to fly on jet with its wing tip missing
An airline crew faced a rebellion when they told passengers they were going to fly on a jet that had lost its wing tip in a runway crash.

The SriLankan Airlines customers had been on the Airbus A340 a day earlier when it sliced through a wing of a stationary British Airways 747 at Heathrow, delaying departure by 24 hours.

So they were amazed to be boarding the same plane next day for the ten-hour flight to Colombo.

2. Can you imagine that? Looking out the plane window and seeing...
5 feet of the wing missing... What the hell is that airline thinking anyway? (Bad question, cause they obviously weren't thinking)

7. Meh, 747s have flown for years without those added tips.
Edited on Sun Nov-04-07 06:54 PM by Kingshakabobo
Those things were added to cut down the effect of "wingtip vortices" that tends to cause drag and subsequent loss in fuel economy.

That said, I would hope they checked for other possible structural damage.

14. I thought so, since the pilot would hardly fly if he/she thought it
was dangerous.

Though I still wouldn't like it. I'm a white knuckle flier.
