Senate Committee Cuts Mandatory Funding for Global School Lunch Program
I dunno WTF people expect of us.Here we got two wars going on, at least one in the incubator and who knows how many * low level* insurrections like the War on Drugs and whatnot that we're sponsoring South of the equator. Mercy,we can't be giving no steenking hungry kids free lunch too! There just ain't no quarterly payoff in it.

Senate Committee Cuts Mandatory Funding for Global School Lunch Program
Written by William Lambers
Published November 03, 2007

The Senate Agriculture Committee recently voted to cut mandatory funding for McGovern-Dole on the 2007 Farm Bill. This is the program that provides school lunches to children in impoverished countries. Within weeks the Farm Bill will be finalized and if the Senate Agriculture Committee's decision stands, McGovern-Dole will suffer a setback in building a global school lunch program.

Countries like Afghanistan, Kenya, and Pakistan all benefit from school lunch programs sponsored by McGovern-Dole. School lunches not only fight child hunger, but also increase school attendance and performance rates. With healthier, educated children nations are more likely to progress and build peaceful, stable societies.

Charities like Catholic Relief Services, C.A.R.E, Food for the Poor and the UN World Food Program carry out the school lunch programs. With 300 million children suffering from hunger there is a tremendous need for school lunch initiatives in developing countries. However, most of the McGovern-Dole applications by the aforementioned charities are denied by the United States Department of Agriculture. There is simply not enough funding allocated by Congress to McGovern-Dole.

1. So many issues to be outraged about, and your right to add this one, I just don't understand
how this outrage can so easily become nothing more than yesterday's headlines.

I don't believe in all my years have I ever been faced with so many issues at one time needing to be addressed and quickly....by overwhelming the American public with one right after another we begin to become a bit to complacent and less likely to yell loudly than to give more than a whimper of "hey, are you kidding me?"

3. the bushies do not have to go hungry ... neither do the senators ...
i have talked to schoolprincipals who tell horror stories of kids who go hungry to school ... there are lots of reasons why the bushes ought to go to jail, this is one of them, and for this particular crime they ought to be sentence to live the next twenty years in one of the "projects" being alloted the exact sum of money the people in the "projects" receive as their monthly assistance...same rule should apply to the senators.
