Bill Maher: "I want to crush Republicans into a fine powder and snort them"
Edited on Sun Nov-04-07 05:03 PM by johnfunk

Whoa, duuude!

The presidential campaign of Barack Obama hasn't been as successful as many analysts once projected. Comedian Bill Maher thinks that the Illinois senator's emphasis on bridging American's partisan divide hasn't taken hold among people furious with the actions of the current administration.

"I don't want to bring people together. I want to win!" he exclaimed on his show Real Time with Bill Maher. "I don't want to work with these people. They can't be worked with. I want to crush them. I want to smash them into a fine powder and snort them!"
I'd be wary of snorting GOPers, Bill -- it'd probably be the worst self-harshing buzz ever!

4. This is not snorting powder, Bill.
This is encase in concrete and bury away from volcanic activity powder.

12. How 'bout taking a torch to it? I wouldn't snort it either.
But I wouldn't mind lighting it and watching it go up in smoke.

7. Better yet: "I want to see the GOP shrink so much that..."
''' it can be crushed into a fine powder and snorted by George W. Bush with a Jack Daniels and pretzel chaser!"

10. I think that Maher is on the right side. But, he is so vulgar and
shallow that sometimes he hinders rather than helps the cause.

19. Since you have asked, I saw him on his show a couple of nights
ago. His guest were Gen. Clark, Martin Navratilova and a Republican guy. Maher was being critical of Bush but not with the damaging kinds of things that you might hear from Carter, Gore, Clark or even Obermann. He launched off into a mainly comedic monologue that was totally laced with multiple references to feces. I remember that the level of vulgarity was diluting his basic message about Bush. I thought we would have been better served by a bit less scatology and a bit more profound criticisms. I also thought that Gen. Clark and Navratilova seemed uncomfortable by his vulgarity. (That might have just been a projection of my own feelings).

Personally, I have no problems with vulgar language. But, if I were in a position where thousands of people were listening to my words, I would most definitely back off from the vulgarity out of respect for those who are uncomfortable with it.

I'm looking for heroes in the public eye. I credit Maher for trying. He is a highly successful entertainer but as a political commentator, he could improve his impact. (just my opinion)

24. You explained why you would do it differenty. But what I asked for were examples
of how he HINDERED THE CAUSE.

What cause exactly do you think he is aligned with anyway?

26. I believe that the level of references to the word "shit" were
totally unnecessary and possibly counter productive to his political criticisms. There are many who would agree that four or five references to excreta per sentence muddles the meaning of the message.
If you disagree, that's fine. Neither of us will change what Maher is doing.

Since he focuses most of his negative remarks toward Bush and Republicans, it seems that he would prefer another Party in office.

Hey, I don't much give a damn one way or the other what Maher or any other comedian says. It was just a thought that popped into my head has I listened to him the other night on TV.

And rightfully so. We want someone that will actually stand up for the majority in the country-- the non-fascist, non-fundamentalist, rational people. We don't want to work with these assholes and we don't want to hold hands. We're ready to give them the same harsh treatment they've been dishing out for the last decade plus.
