Reason for Colorado to turn blue
Ranchers and farmers in Colorado are fighting the government and the military who are trying to take over their land. Some of the ranchers and their ancestors have been on the land for over 200 years.

The government wants to take over the land, which will eventually encompass 1 million acres. They say they need the land to train the military for combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. What the heck. How long does bush think he is going to be in office so that he will have the land to train military.

Needless to say the whole of rural, formerly red red country may probably be turning a deep blue. They need help from environmentalist. Yeah now.

1. I just read a really good article about this on MSNBC.com!
They are furious. Bush and the Pentagon are going to use eminent domain to steal land. They are not expected to stop in Colorado either. There will come a day when people realize exactly what the Supreme Court did when they passed eminent domain through and Americans hardly even whimpered about it. I remember being horrified. Now it comes into view exactly why they wanted it to pass.

2. What I can't understand is WHY in the heck do they want this land.
Maybe it will be deemed later that they don't need it, and be sold to some big company for something. And how do we know the US is training there. I wouldn't put it past this administration to let Blackwater or some type of pari-military group have it.

3. Not only is the Pinon Canyon area ranch land, but
it's home to thousands of magnificent dinosaur fossils -- paleontologists go there to study all the time. Can you imagine the Army blowing up all these treasures? The ranchers have been preserving these forever.

4. Good.
Maybe some of these people might finally realize what those pachyderms are all about.

(Thinking: maybe these ranchers will keep on feeding the dog that bit their hands.) :eyes:

5. Something that bothered me very much
is that in reading the article, I checked out State Senator John Morse of Colorado Springs, a Dem in favor of the proposal who said, "patriotism is about accepting your cost, even when it is disproportionate." So I figure he is a straight DINO, but then when I went to check his voting record, it is blue all the way, and he voted in support of the joint resolution opposing escalation of the war in Iraq back in April. Senator Wayne Allard, the Republican, of course, thinks this is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

I look a little further and notice that one of the supporters is Brian Binn, the president of Military Affairs Division of the Greater Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce. I could be wrong, but I believe that this is the same Brian Binn who was Vice-Superintendent of the Air Force Academy in 2001 - 2002.

Finally, I find "Jim Montoya, a Democrat who chairs Las Animas's county commission," local level, thinking it is wrong.

Long story short, it is city versus rural/ moderate sized ranchers vs. business. One of the people affected said "They're going to lie. They're going to come up with a reason. . . "That's when I get my chains and tie myself to a lamppost. They're going to have to take me off my land."

I don't think the Dems or (obviously) the Republicans are going to be the choice. I think the choices could be much more extreme in both directions. I'm not from Colorado and I don't know the local politics, but if you live in a rural area that is under pressure, you've seen this shit before.
