5. It's not cable, but a dish on the top of my house. I don't know.
We've had it for years, and my husband installed it. It works great except when a storm is close by, then we lose the satellite. Unlike our cable connection with Comcast, that seems to go out often.
And I know there's a cheap and ethical phone company out there that goes through your 'puter. So I'm trying to connect some dots.

6. I have DSl with Qwest
reasonable cost but it goes out when we have windstorms/power out, though computer does too sometimes. I don't have cable and satellite was too costly.

8. My dish is in my back yard, but i think it's what you're talking about..
it's strictly internet. The cable comes from the dish to my modem. I have the same problems with mine when it's really cloudy & stormy too. The transmit & recieve signals can't penetrate the cloud cover. I sometimes lose signal during a heavy downpour, even if it's not as thick with clouds as some of the storms here. If it snows, I have to go out and wipe the snow off the dish or it wont pick up.

It helps to wax the dish about twice a year... and also check the "eye thingy" on the extended arm to make sure it's not covered with bird crap or anything that will block reception...

Hope that helps... :hi:

9. Thanks! Do you have cable or satellite internet? Is your
computer on your satellite? And we don't get snow here (Yet:scared:) so this could be the way to go. Also, there's a cool telephone co. to be on via computer. It sounds good to me.

13. Mine is satellite. I live so far out in the sticks that we don't even *have* cable or DSL
I'm hoping that will change sometime soon.

7. I've heard very mixed reviews on them. A few people are happy with them
and quite a lot we talk to think they're crap. It may be poor installation issues, though.

11. I've heard that satellite internet has horrible ping times
Being an online gamer I can't have that.

Actually, I know some do have horrible ping times, since I used Pegasus at my friends home and found it to consistently be in the low 100's at best.

This was with a recent professional installation.
