Secret Societies aired last evening on History Channel. I hope it runs again. It was pretty amazing, outlining the connections between Skull & Bones, The Trilateral Commission, the Knights Templar, the whole big giant tin foil hat. I didn't get to see the whole thing, but I think it's safe to assume that equal time was given to the other side, who say it's all crazy talk. But it was pretty fascinating.
On a more grim note, "Fast Food Nation" was a stunner. For some reason, I always thought it was more of a documentary, or like "Supersize Me," so I never bothered to watch it. But holy shit! It really is a MUST SEE. Very political. It was a call-to-action movie about everything wrong with BushCo and our society/economy in general. And I admit, it helped me to understand what these "jobs Americans won't do" are, and why Republicans never get more specific than that, leading you to believe they're talking about gardeners and nannies. They're not. The main theme of the movie was immigration, and the Mexicans coming into America to escape $4-a-day jobs to work in absolutely horrendous conditions. I think the Republicans have at least one valid point -- I can't imagine any American willing to pull the kidneys out of dead cows while standing ankle deep in blood and feces for $8-10/hr. Can you? Maybe a couple of 'em, but not enough to run the meat packing industry, that's for sure. Which, imho, would be a very good thing. Shut the fuckers down, go back to local agriculture. Fast Food Nation was at once eye opening and horrifying. See it. But don't plan on ever eating meat again any time soon.
It's an important film, even if a little bit heavy handed with the politics at times. I give it "Two Throws Up."
