A difference in response (Mexican Flood in tabasco)
So here is what the Mexican Authorities are doing

Mexican Red Cross

They are gathering food, water, et al at both the Polanco National HQ and in Tabasco

(If you want to give, money is your best choice at this point, still trying to trace it down)

The Air Force

Has launched six c-130 hercules in an air bridge to take all these neeeded goods to the stricken area

The Infantry Batallions are in the area for security and help

The State of Veracruz is opening centers to house all this folks (25K)

The Government of Coahuila sent medical personnel and needed medications

The DF has sent firefighters

And Yucatan has sent EMS and medical personnel

Now this is a summary from the Mexican news story

2. Read the same thing on BBC's website.
And NOLA got only Brownie and FEMA after being ignored for days and the place is still a mess -- and we call Mexico a crummy third world country...

6. Yeah. Who's the real "third world" country?
Aren't our people going over the border to see Mexican doctors, too?

4. Thanks. I hope they reach them all.
Seems they're not willing to let their own people die and we were.

8. Supports more and more the idea that the WH wanted parts of NOLA totally destroyed
and its people dispersed.

9. A lot of this infrastructure was put in place after
the Mexico City Quake

Hell I remmeber getting one of my first triage courses after a major disaster before the quake

Piece of trivia, the idea to use the subway in many Ameircan Cities as an adhoc ambulance came from the hell of an improvisation
after San Juanico, where yes, the Mexico City Subway was used as an ambulance

Nothing much more fun than comandeering a PRI party buss to send it to San Juanico for ambulance duty.

:-)

yes, Red Cross personnel can and are froggy down there

16. "Froggy"?
Okay, I'm guessing you don't mean they sit on lily pads and eat bugs. I do not know this usage.

20. Cool.
Is it a local word? Where? We don't use it in NY (unless it's new teen slang in which case I have no clue).

oh and by the way... another major diference, so far only ONE person has died.

The mobilization, after going from site to site looking for where to send some money, has been massive

13. Thank you for the updates
I've seen a few reports and it just looks awful. It is reassuring to hear only 1 person has died though. I bet those people didn't have neighboring villages turn them away at gun point.

14. Not if you go to the narco page
so far they have also arrested 35 people for looting... not surprising

By the way from looking around in the US the best place to donate seems to be the American Red Cross

I guess I will call the Mexican Red Cross in TJ and ask... hate to take the time of dispatch, but hell

21. They've put the Bush administration to shame immediately. Good for them.
They STILL got so much more accomplished already. So much more concern, intelligence, involvement, humanity.
