Don't you think it would help to know why ?
Take Schumer and Feinstein confirming Mukasey . Include the Dems caving in on many bills and their confirmation or Gonzo and Rice , Roberts and Ollito .

I can't figure out what drives them , no one can . If we knew what their reasons were or their interests were then at least we would have something to work with .

I have called and emailed and written but I am just one and so far I get no real answers . Many of the emails allow only certain topics so when I emailed Boxer about impeachment I did not get an answer that applied .

I have come to the point where I feel these efforts do no good . I hear some Dems repeat issues I've heard on liberal radio so i know they listen to some of the shows .

I am not here to discourage anyone from doing anything that they feel will make a difference , this is just my own personal observation .

Things are not the same as they were during my 60's days during Vietnam , it was not only the draft , it was an attitude people had and a connection that may be lost on the internet .

Here on the internet people can bitch and conplain or say they are doing this or that , the difference is back then you knew who was fighting the fight , it was right there , straight out in the open . This part I relate to the protestors of today , they are there doing something .

Voting , well we'll see how that works out this time around if we even reach that day .

how many calls does it take and why were the Dems sitting on their hands all these years , majority or not they could have fought for the right thing now we are supposed to trust them .

Yeah , I know we should not bash the Dems but damn it what's going on , has Feinstein sold out , is she controlled by her military profiteer husband .

Every single time a bill comes to the floor it dies or gets vetoed .

I tend to feel perhaps cheney is out in front of a much larger force that we don't even know about .

When people talk about un-identified flying objects well then let them beam the corporate media so that the truth pores out without them being able to control it , just let it flow out for all to hear .

This is such crap and I can't take much more of it . I'm not about to buckle up with two six shooters and hit the streets firing away .

I am to old for this shit , I've been through it before and now we seem to be reaching some sort of end and not a good one at that .

1. The question of Why?
I'm so habituated to want to know WHY, but my personal belief system tells me that WHY is irrelevant. So it's a constant battle within me, to figure out which questions are worth asking and which are simply unknowable. I empathize with your search for an answer to this confusion. I'm confused too.

Maybe someone will have a more constructive answer than I do.

3. well you ask why
untill you realize its no longer a two party system, they vote the same way on everything except social issues (which i feel is a band aid for what the people deserver) our representatives have gotten away from us and are now beholden to the corporate masters that keep the GOP, the wh and the media in check.

4. In the '60s we sought to overthrow the system - not "fix" it. We failed.
In reality, we never had a chance. The bosses, the real bosses, are more firmly in place than ever. At least they are in this country.

5. i feel i understand
just what you say, and how you feel. nothing is right and the people who should be changing it are sitting around with their thumbs up their asses and i do not know why. i've wondered if it can be possible that virtually every fucking congressperson and senator and judge and fill in blank has a past that the bushies have been able to blackmail them into submission, i've wondered if the people in powerful positions in DC are in abject fear for their lives should they do the right thing, i've wondered (and concluded that this is probably the closest to the truth) if they are not all whores for corporations and lobbyists. that perhaps there is not an actual soul left in politics today.

frustration.

7. Shadowboxing w/ Dem leaders
Its been incredibly frustrating, working so hard to get a Dem majority elected and anticipating winning the WH in 2008 only to watch our leaders in DC morph into spineless creatures who don't seem to have a clue.

As the rest of the country turns blue and looks to them for leadership, they dodge, weave and hide behind Bush's skirts, then have the audacity to criticize the Dem base for not agreeing with them.

They've made our party's future much more uncertain than it should be.

8. Why is relevent as it precludes a cure or solution.
Edited on Sat Nov-03-07 09:46 PM by FREEWILL56
I believe the why is multi-faceted with many causes. What we do have is corporations litterally pulling the strings of the gop over many years. The power of the corporations have risen many fold and has enabled the naturally greedy republicons to be bought not only with money, but in ideals as they think alike. In other words most pukes are CEO wannabes who have failed in business, but excelled in bullshit and thusly go into politics. Government is the lawbiding and making body that business looks as its hindrance and enemy.

Moving on we have seen the criminallity of the republicons nature as they view running the government like running a business. This includes the people it's supposed to serve and protect as being only miniscule employess that they must satisfy or find a way to shut them up. The biggest proponent of the real role of the citizenry and the role of government was the democratic party that held the greedy and delusional from becoming kings or having a ruling party acting in such a fashion on monarchy. This was evident during the time of the Vietnam war and in the taking of the Nixon criminal elements to justice. Now don't forget there were elements in government that were not very democratic or healthy for our country back then. We saw the likes of elder Bush in the CIA with J.Edger Hoover in the FBI and the assassination of JFK. The younger Cheney and W along with Rove and many others were trained under the extreme corruption of that Nixon era and they plotted and learned from their mistakes.

Later we saw the likes of the Reagan/Bush era with such things like union busting and using Reagan just as W is being used now, but with one difference. Reagan didn't fully know what they were up to and W does, but they made further inroads into their goals during the timeperiod.

We now come to this millenium with the stealing of elections and running the government like a business with the electorate as the main employees complete right down to outsourcing the many functions of government to businesses that now we don't even go for the best bidder or the quality and nature of the work being considered. That benefits their buddies in the private corporate world that has much power and wealth with little in the areas of compassion or real religious convictions and family values or duty to the country, any country, as many of them are more powerful than countries. Those same republicons hold the same values too.

We get into a war with Al Qaeda due to convenient attacks to the country that leads up to the invasion of Afghanistan in pursuit of the enemy. From there it led to a trumped up war in Iraq for initially the reason of terrorism of which we know was not the case. After the fact they kept giving excuses for the justifications of the war, but they are really going after wealth as the oil is there. If they can't buy em out they take em out just like in the corporate world.

I know this is long and I'm skipping many other good points, but now we have the opposing party that held some of these checks and balances now being attacked as the enemy of them and their goals of a giant fascist state. The 9-11 attacks made it possible for the slithering treasonish pieces of scum to attack many that helped hold them at bay. Anthrax and probably many other attacks that didn't make the news, that they didn't have 100% control of yet at the time, allowing the few we heard of to slip through. It didn't matter though at that time because they shifted blame to the War on Terrorism. They used the media quite well in their quest to advertise the fear factors that those that weren't controlled or bought off sucked up to as it was reasonable to think it was for protecting us. Remember the neat color coded alerts? They did away with them when we didn't buy the bs. Had the threats been real the alerts would not have stopped and was the fear card being using not only on the citizenry, but on those in the government as well.

Anyway, to speed this up the remaining opposition to their control of our government is in our representatives so they threaten, buy them off, or rig the elections so as to rid themselves of them. They haven't fully succeeded here yet, but you see the efforts they made have paid off with Pelosi, Feinstein, and some others. Some are in transition to one degree or another, but some are waking up to the real threat with a few that had always seen the real threat, but were made to be unheard, unnoticed or discredited. They are hoping to keep the populace at bay too before they have instituted enough control. They already know who can do what to stop them because of the war on terrorism is being used that they can, under the guise of protecting our nation, illegally listen in to, track, and even detain permanently without any right to counsel or trial. They strip our rights away to control us and they are dangerous.

DK is 100% right that our democracy is in grave danger.

9.  You explained it well
I have had these same thoughts , I have to remind myself this did not happen in just the past 7 years , it's been building up to this point for quite some time .

I has gotten to the point where I do feel it is possible for the elections to be cancelled and bush has said so in so many words .

10. Yes we think alike I believe.
In addition I believe that any attempt to take out this bacterium from our government will be met with immediate marshall law being proclaimed for trumped up reasons of terrorist attacks and further encrust them into our government with little hope of elected them out. Don't be surprised if they were to stage this either.

14.  I think that's part of the reason for impeachment being off the table
If they push Impeachment then the faster everything goes to hell . I'm sure they already have all their plans from A-Z in place and a trumped up attack is not out of their tool box .

Nothing would surprise me anymore . I was optimistic is a sense in 2006 midterms but it did not take long for that to dissolve into another form of swill that we see daily now .

Every single day you wake up to another disaster and then it vanishes as fast as it came along with never a result or conclusion . To keep up , multi-tasking takes on an entire new meaning and has become a group effort at best .

15. I agree of that possibiliy as being highly probable.
I do hold onto a shred of hope though, that there are enough real citizens of this country to counter this attack upon our great nation before it is too late. Not many of our polititians would impress our forefathers in a positive way and many would be tried and hung already for treason.

12. He's not a good liar is all.
It makes no difference what they say anymore as you hear nonsense from them. "We can't pursue impeachment because I need somebody to point out impeachable offenses that'll stick." is a good example and is not word for word and is itilicized due indicate it's not my original wording. Don't be surprised if we hear it's Donald Duck's birthday and it's 2:30 in the afternoon to not do whatever. They have been gotten to one way or another. Too many that trumpetted our cries all of a sudden do a 180? Not a coincidence.

It is not itilicized but it is in quotes. Good thing I spotted this before the self proclaimed hillary english professors came by claiming this was somehow against them or hillary justifying all children under the age of 16 the right to have drivers licenses too.

16. right now it just looks like a kabuki dance to me. I think the
dems were happy not having any power and using it as an excuse. They didn't use their opposition power to stop anything except the privatization of social security--and that was more due to a groundswell at the grassroots.

They didn't want to investigate the 2004 election fraud and they were seriously surprised to win the senate last year. This threw a serious wrench in their plans to remain an ineffective opposition while they quietly supported * policies. So now they play the game of continually raising hopes and then slamming their base every chance they get. Every time it is the blue-dogs and a few others caving in for some unfathomable reason. It's like this vote on Mukasey. Feingold was wavering. Now that opposition has been effectively torpedoed by Schumer and Difi, he has decided to take a stand against the nomination. WTF? Where is the LEADERSIP?

Where is impeachment? I don't hold out any hope for Kuchinich's bill because there will be enough dems voting against it to make it go down in flames. You don't see Nancy or anyone actively supporting it in the press. The media hardly mentions it. It seems that they will let Dennis take responsibility for it going down in flames.

Ralph told us in 2000. The reasons don't matter any more.

When all hope is gone with no leadership or contrary voices to the wrongs being done in government, just what do you propose should be done?

20. yes, I applaud Dennis, and even Feingold, but I think
they are allowed, for now, to play their role in providing a glimmer of hope so that people won't take more drastic measures to oppose the situation. It would be too obvious to all if they eliminated all carrots and simply slammed the door. I think that is part of the plan. And it fits in so nicely with people's innate desire to be positive and blindly maintain hope until ALL is lost.

...and I'm NOT sayin that Dennis is part of this plan--but he is only 'allowed' to play a minor role.

....and they only have to string us along a little longer......

18. Actually they gave answers people did like until they got elected,
but you are right about some people ignoring what they don't like sometimes. I guess that's how pelosi, feinstein, and many others are viewing bush, cheney, rove, etc. as they just ignore the wrongdoings. Hmm, no, it can't be that because they are doing things and voting in favor of these pukes. That rules out that they ignored anybody save the people that put them there to do a job for us.
