20. She was a political ally of Dan White and saw him right before he murdered Milk.
I tend to think of her as the Twinkie-Pusher. In fact, she was instrumental in keeping Dan White from resigning. If he had resigned, it's likely that Moscone and Milk would still be alive.

and Schumer was part of the dirty tricks DLC team who undermined him.

40. It wasn't a DLC issue, Brown is a liberal
as much as some would like to make it so, it had nothing to do with the DLC.

A quick check of Brown's voting record in Congress will prove it. Do some homework.

Edited on Fri Nov-02-07 06:45 PM by notsodumbhillbilly
The legislation adopted by the House of Representatives Wednesday and the Senate Thursday, legalizing the Bush administration’s policy of torture and indefinite detention without trial, as well as kangaroo-court procedures for Guantánamo detainees, marks a watershed for the United States.

The 34 House Democrats included a number of right-wing Southern Democrats, but also several members of the Congessional Black Caucus and two congressmen who are Democratic candidates for the US Senate in next month’s election—Harold Ford of Tennessee and Sherrod Brown of Ohio.

http://www.wsws.org/articles/2006/sep2006/tort-s29.shtml

The truth is, though, it wasn’t only Republicans who voted for the Military Commissions Act. Democrat Sherrod Brown voted for it too. So did Democrat Harold Ford Jr. Harold Ford Jr. was subsequently made chairman of the Democratic Leadership Council.

29. Safe seats...the whole thing's a set up
The people voting no did so because it was purely symbolic. Schumer's not gonna lose a Dem primary in NY, and DiFi ain't gonna lose one in CA, and neither would lose to a GOPer in either state, period. So, they have safe Yes votes, and a couple of Dems get to pretend to object, blah blah blah. Anyone who didn't think Bush was gonna get his way is a fucking idiot. Period.

You might want to inform yourself on the records of Leahy and Kennedy before making yr little judgements. Nah, why ask the impossible? Some people aren't interested in actually informing themselves.

36. Whatever
Leahy's record hasn't done squat for the people of this country or the world when it counted, so he's a failure, and the same goes for Kennedy. Two fucking failures this past six years, with a long string of symbolic victories for starry-eyed clowns to idolize.

then he came out safely against. That's how it works in politics!!

47. Sorry, that's not true. a) I heard him on vpr
a couple of days ago in an extended interview, and it was clear that he was going to vote against him, and b) this afternoon I talked with someone who worked for him for years, and he said that Leahy and Kennedy had been working on Schumer trying to get him to announce with Leahy that he wouldn't vote for him. Now who should I believe? You or my friend, and my own personal knowledge of Pat Leahy?

This jerk is only going to be around for another year. The next one Bush appoints will be just as bad, just more evasive about it.

I'd much rather see everyone involved in setting up torture as a valid US policy up to now get prosecuted.
But that isn't going to happen either.
