ANOTHER Closeted Gay REPUBLICAN BUSTED!
Edited on Wed Oct-31-07 09:45 AM by Beetwasher
I think I'm started to see a pattern here.

Police report sheds new light on Curtis encounter

State Rep. Richard Curtis, R-La Center, admitted to having sex with a man he met at an adult video store in Spokane last week, according to a police report released Tuesday afternoon.

--snip--

The police report contains an account of how Curtis allegedly donned women’s clothing, red stockings and a black sequined lingerie top before engaging in a sex act at the store. He continued to wear them throughout the night under his clothing.

--snip--

Curtis, 48, is married and has two daughters. The two-term legislator and retired fire department captain was in Spokane last week for a retreat with other Republican lawmakers in preparation for the 2008 Legislature.

--snip--

The entire incident might have never come to light if Curtis hadn’t contacted Sgt. Roy Rhine of the Washington State Patrol. Rhine, who works out of the patrol’s Southwest Washington office, is a fellow Republican who has run for the state Legislature.

1. All of us have secret lives I think. I know I have things about me that no one knows.
I'm sure all of you do to. The problem is when you persecute other people who have the same secrets.

I don't care if a repub is gay. I do care if they are gay and persecute other gays with legislation or lack of legislation that protects their rights.

4. What's curious about this Curtis and Larry Craig as well....
Is that both Curtis and Craig have sex with other men....and when they get busted they IMMEDIATELY say:

"I'm not gay"

What am I missing here....Curtis is a man, Craig is a man, they both have sex with other men = they're gay.

WTF?! Talk about being in denial.

That article btw is HILARIOUS, the women's clothing, red stockings stuff....Lol!

The self-hating GOP gay men, total hypocrites....they bash gays, they vote against anything that would let gays have equal rights with everyone else....and yet in secret they're having sex with other men.

Jaysus, I have NO respect whatsoever for this sort of hypocrite.

Jaysus, the thought of Mitch McConnell having sex with, well....ANYONE, is enough to make me hurl!

:puke:

I always thought that Rick Santorum must be gay or bi-sexual, because that man just PROTESTED TOO loudly about how evil homosexuality is....he was and is OBSESSED with men having sex with other men.

Aside from his offensive and frankly insane Man on Dog comments....his other utter moment of hysteria, was when he actually in The Senate, stood up and ranted that if gays were allowed to get married it'd quote: "Be the end of North American civilization!"

They are seriously FU in the membrane.

Check the photograph of him....he's got facial hair and everything....it's not as IF anyone therefore would think Curtis could pass for a woman.

There was no offense intended, don't be so sensitive, chill.

My posts since I've been at DU for several years, will show that I'm pro-Gay Rights and think that gays should be allowed to get married.

28. You are being intolerant and behaving in the very way that created that closet in the first place.
Let me educate you. There are many men who get aroused by cross dressing - it has nothing to do with facial hair or trying to pull off a convincing drag. Many of these men are actually straight and I'll guarantee that there are even men here on DU that enjoy that sort of thing. It's barely beyond vanilla as far as sexual kinks go.

It's not HILARIOUS, not because he's 'in denial' or any other reason. In fact, the way you said it does more to make fun of the kink than it does the man's denial. I hope that you'll consider this.

Well Beefheart legitimizes you. But I think you've miscategorized the Kinks. They were rockers early on. Then they expanded the boundaries of the music. Even the Beatles were influenced by them.

Enjoy your spankings. :)

114. You know Pop as in you can hum or whistle their tunes
Edited on Wed Oct-31-07 03:06 PM by ...of J.Temperance
And their tunes get played on Mainstream radio, that kind of Pop.

I grew up in a house, where from about the age of 6, that's when I first can remember hearing this noise....and it was Captain Beefheart, my Dad was and still is a HUGE Beefheart fan, so I was really bombarded by Beefheart and other stuff at an early age, to the point where I then liked it myself....I grew up in a very anti-Pop household....SERIOUSLY!

Jefferson Airplane made four great albums: "Surrealistic Pillow", "After Bathing At Baxters", "Crown of Creation" and "Volunteers", five I suppose if you count "Bless It's Pointy Little Head", but that was a live album, I've never really been into live albums. After "Volunteers", Jefferson Airplane went downhill and FAST.

Fairport Convention made three great albums ALL with Sandy Denny, who vocally was as AMAZING as Grace Slick was for Jefferson Airplane. The three great Fairport Convention albums: "What We Did On Our Holidays", "Unhalfbricking" and "Liege and Leaf".

Silver Apples, well they made two albums originally: "Silver Apples" and "Contact"....sort of Minimalist Electronica like 30 years PRIOR to Minimalist Electronica actually becoming an established music genre....they then had a HUGE period of inactivity, DECADES in fact....and in the late 1990's, the Independent music scene revived them and they started recording again....amazing stuff too:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silver_apples

Oh heck, you mention The Beatles....I don't like them either, The Beatles were the FIRST manufactured Boy Band, Brian Epstein was the GENIUS behind The Beatles, the proof in that was when Epstein died they COULDN'T cut it and dissolved VERY soon after Epstein's death....I don't rate Elvis Presley either, he never wrote ONE song.

The Rolling Stones were okay until Brian Jones died, in my humble opinion The Rolling Stones last good album was "Let It Bleed", which I have an original vinyl copy of, courtesy of my Dad...."Let It Bleed" features quite possibly their FINEST moment, and it's track one on side two and it's called "Midnight Rambler".

After Brian Jones died, they really lost it.

Well, we've had a musical interlude in this thread, and why not....a CERTAIN poster made this thread TOTALLY wacky....so I don't see why we can't have a brief musical discussion here as well!

Oh yes and spanking :)

115. What's a little hijack between friends?
Never liked Elvis. Buddy Holly was the man.

Airplane lost me after "Baxter's." I think you missed something by not seeing these groups in person. Beatles albums were disciplined, but their concerts were rock 'n roll! Did you see the roof concert in "Let It Be"? Same with the Zombies. You can see their stage act in classic movie "Blowup!" I'm with you on the Stones. After Brian left, they did a few great things.

Never followed Fairport; don't know Silver Apples. I don't fault a group for having melodies though. (And I have plenty of experience with atonal -- Stravinsky, Bartok, and Cage through Coltrane, Dolphy and Cecil Taylor.) For a while I only listened to the Avante Garde, and then returned to the song form. My own personal favorite since 1969 -- the NRBQ.

Kinks though, were among original heavy rockers. Maybe you had to be there.

Good hijacking with you. :)

I like Link Wray myself....he only had one lung as well, Link made an amazing noise!

I was born in 1978, so I never got to see ANY of those bands :(

I can't say I've seen "Let It Be", I'm always afraid that I'll break out in hives if ever confronted with anything Beatles ;)

The Zombies appeared briefly, in an Otto Preminger film that he made in Britain, a great film with Keir Dullea, Carol Lynley and oddly Noel Coward, called "Whatever Happened To Bunny Lake?"

I've seen The Zombies, I saw them in 2005 at All Tomorrow's Parties, which is a non-Corporate sponsored music festival that gets held twice a year in a Holiday Camp! They were pretty good too....saw a reformed Love at an ATP as well, and then not long after Arthur Lee up and died :(

That's one of the GREAT albums, Love "Forever Changes"....I do like a certain TYPE of melody....if it's throwaway Pop or it's straightforward melodic I won't like it....if it's more complex and darker type melody I can handle that, "Forever Changes" is actually a very dark album, especially lyrically.

I think you'd like those Fairport Convention albums, you should check them out.

I'm really into Atonal....those you mentioned I love....my music taste goes from Avant-Garde to Blues to Free Jazz to Classical to well, I suppose people MIGHT say Unlistenable Music!

Who are NRBQ, would I like them?

For consolation, I do think Ray Davies seems like a good fellow :)

Yeah whats a little hijacking ;)

119. Far out -- I knew Link Wray well, jammed with him once when
Doug Wray was not there to play drums. He was the father of psychedelic guitar.

Can't say if you'd like http://nrbq.com/">NRBQ, they have hundreds of originals, but have also covered tunes from Carl Perkins to Sun Ra. Some of their fans are (or were): Hendrix, E. Costello, Bonnie Raitt, Link Wray, Melenkamp, Keith Richards, and I could drop many other names. But what you like is of course up to you.

Like you I'm eclectic, but my "frequent" list is still topped with Monk, Ellington, and J.S. Bach. But I'll do Motown (love the Dixie Cups,) Balinese Monkey Chant, Texas Playboys, and on and on...

What can I say except that "Let It Be" is a great movie. Take an anti-histamine. :)

Got to move to another thread now where I might be getting an all time flaming...

It's not the same as PUBLICALLY ridiculing the guy who enjoys cross dressing and calling the practice HYSTERICAL. I hope you can understand that. It's not the same thing.

Perhaps you think I'm just nit-picking or just looking for a fight, but that isn't the case. I want tolerance. I want the need for 'the closet' to disappear altogether. Making fun of people's kinks isn't the way to get there.

46. They were playing women actually
It's a tradition that goes to (and probably beyond) Shakespeare's time. Men would dress as women, to play females in plays. Women were NOT ALLOWED TO ACT! And that is probably one subtle point they were making.... besides hardly any women at the time would put up with the humor they had :)

113. Goes at least as far back as Greek plays. As for Shakespeare:much of his humor is based on cross...
...-dressing. Boy actors dressed as women who dress as men to pursue a lover into the world of men, whose lover then feels a strange attraction to the boy at his side who turns out to be his woman -- who is actually a boy-actor playing a woman.

Dressing in drag has been a staple of MALE humor since the dawn of time -- sailors crossing the equator (iirc), frat boys, Hollywood movies, Rudy Giuliani.... The guys think it is hilarious.

And yes, I do know there's a difference between cross-dressing and wearing women's undies under a suit and tie.

Republicans. Maybe they all just want to be spanked for their naughty thoughts. Maybe we could help them by just lining up all the Publicans&Sinners in Congress and paddling them. Get this desire to interfere in OTHER people's sex lives out of their systems.

Hekate

87. Eddy Izzard IS a transvestite and is also a very funny comedian.
His humor isn't focused on the fact that he's a transvestite. Nor is he making fun of transvestites. And like many transvestites, he's heterosexual.

I humbly suggest that if you think Eddy Izzard is funny BECAUSE of the way he's dressed, you're not really getting his humor.

99. Who would think that Eddy is funny solely because he is an "executive transvestite"?
What is funny is that even those who are most squeemish about such a thing tend to be completely overlooking the fact that the man is in drag at all by the end of his routine (or even 10 minutes into it.)

84. I believe it's analogous to...
I believe it's analogous to Madeline Murray O'Hare going to a baptist church every weekend to contritely and sincerely ask for repentance and forgiveness from God.

I don't think it's the action that's humorous that was implied, but rather the context that the action is taken in...

(But yeah-- the movie Tootise was funny, too)

He went to the police because he was being blackmailed. If he committed any crime, it was possibly soliciting a prostitute, not his closet homosexuality.

I think the story was posted to illustrate yet another example of Republican hypocrisy on the gay issue.

NOBODY in their right mind thinks that being gay is a "crime".

22. The wording of the OP is misleading.
"ANOTHER Closeted Gay REPUBLICAN BUSTED" - He wasn't busted for being gay any more than he was busted for being a republican.

In fact I'm not sure he was even busted at all. He went to the police to report being a victim of blackmail.

I guess the OP means 'outed' not busted? I understand calling out hypocrisy but there is often an delight in delighting in shaming a (closeted republican) person for their sexuality around this place, which is what created The Closet in the first place.

It's all in the words people choose to use.

If the Republican Party wasn't in the control of the Fundies, then probably the GOP gay's could live their lives openly and happily.

In the GOP there's a culture of Homophobia, gays aren't accepted really in that party, by politicians or supporters.

The question is, if you were gay, WHY would you want to be in a party that thought you were a second class citizen who didn't deserve the SAME rights as everyone else?
