Is THIS what Hillary's critics mean by calling her "shrill?"
I heard a new tone in Hillary's voice tonight. Maybe it's what others have described as shrill, although I never could see it myself. Actually, to me she sounds less "shrill" than exasperated and stressed out. It's not pleasant, but I'm not sure I'd use the word "shrill."

3. and those who call her shrill
would NEVER be able to stand up to the onslaught of criticism and verbal body slams she's gotten tonight. You even TRY to disagree with one of those Hillary Haters and it's ALL CAPS and nasty names almost immediately. I don't know that any of us could withstand what she does and not occasionally sound stressed out. Despite what some think, she is only human -- as are all of them.

7. I'd like to see every single one of the others
put under the same "group + Russert" attack and see how they react.

8. I'd say she was sounding like a cranky School Teacher trying to tell her students
why what she was saying should be listened to. But, what she was saying had been heard before and so it came off flat or preachy. She wants to set up "Study Commissions" for every problem. Isn't that what Bush does? When he isn't prancing around like the little dictator?

15. on a number of issues
Social security - "Personally not advocating a position until we have fiscal responsibility" (I am so old I remember when fiscal responsibility was a Republican talking point for "no more spending on social programs")

AMT - "Not going to commit to a specific approach."

Speaking after Dodd, Biden and Edwards

"I agree with everything that's been said ..." (Granted I would be hard pressed not to say the same thing. What can you do when your opponents make several good points?)

Fiscal responsibility and bi-partisan commissions. Is that her platform? I think that misses a point. If you promise somethings like your health care program and specific tax reforms and then you win in a landslide, you have a mandate. The people have spoken and both parties had better listen (just like they did with the accursed Reagan tax cuts). By refusing to advance a specific proposal it seems like the people do not get to have a say, but are just expected to rubber stamp whatever a committee of bigshots come up with. I won't tell you what I plan to do - just trust me.

4. i thought she sounded very "solid" -- not shrill. fed-up, maybe -- but not in a shrill way.
shrill is a way to describe people (women especially) who don't have any power. she comports herself as the one with the absolute most power of the candidates. shrill simply doesn't apply.

5. "Shrill," imo, is a sexist term
Don't like HRC. Hate her if you want, but calling her shrill, talking about her EYEBROWS? OMG.

12. "shrill" is an insult usually used to disempower a female speaker,
so, yes -- quite sexist.

16. Absolutely. If she was a man, she would be described as "forceful" or
"passionate" or "confident" but because she's a woman, she's "shrill." I've never heard a man referred to as shrill and I've been around a while.

10. There is a tone
she uses according to my husband that drives him crazy. Perhaps that is what it is... a change in tone that is jarring to the ear.

6. I don't know that I would describe her as shrill..
but it definitely looks like she could use a long nap. She seems tired and annoyed.
